Thief 2 Patched vs. Unpatched Version - by TheGrimSmile

I can't seem to get a screenshot, because I guess they save to somewhere...
In the Running Interference level, there's that little room that has a small alcove or something blocked off by boxes. I haven't ventured there for a while (I usually just do the mission and get out) but when I went in there today, instead of just having the silver nugget in there, there was a weird structure, some four-pronged statue thing in there, and it had a little piece of gold in the middle.
I know from the many speedruns I've watched that it's usually not there, and watching one again, I see that there is just a gear and a tray.
So, what is this thing? I'm playing on normal difficulty and I have never seen it.
Also, if someone could tell my how to take a screenshot (Print Screen doesn't seem to work) I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

It's a secret room in the basement. The alcove seems to have a religious symbol in it and some loot. Perhaps the owners are using it as a chapel for secret worship, just as priest holes were used in England and elsewhere to hide clergy or lay people hiding from religious persecution.
It has always been there in every time I've played the mission.
For a screen shot check your CONTROLS in the MENU OPTIONS. I think it is F10 or alt F10 depending on the game, in TMA I think it's F10, but look in the CONTROL menu.
They save within the THIEF folder as PIC. 00001.pic etc.

The first time I played that level I think it was a gear there? Or was that some other level.. Well anyway it was a long time ago.

It depends on whether you have the very first version (unpatched) or the patched version. They made changes in many missions with the patch.
At the moment I don't remember which had the gear and which had the "Symbol".

Thank you for the information! Thanks also for the screenshot help!
Hmm, I suppose I could just be remembering wrongly... I always remember there being a tray, because I would mess with it before grabbing the silver behind the wall. I could be mistaken, though.... is it there on all difficulties?
Thanks again for the help!
EDIT:
Oh! I guess that explains it, then.
I'm not sure which version I have...
I'm very curious now. What other kinds of changes did they make?
EDIT 2/3: I guess I'll just keep posting differences I find, if only for my own amusement.
Playing through the second level, I can definitely see some of the changes. On Davidson's boat, there's a crate in his room that I'm not certain was always there, there's no ladder going on to the boat, I'm pretty sure the boat guards' patrols are different, an the hull is certainly less cluttered.
I reinstalled this on Windows 7 not so long ago. I guess I forgot to patch!
I guess this patch also fixed the glitch where I could walk through a guard on the stairs.
There is also the fact that the Mechanist workshop is nothing more than a room in this version. I found a Horn in there, but I suppose I don't need it on this difficulty. There is a safe on top of the room that has a very pretty recording in it. Anyone know what this song is?
I've noticed that there is not a sound when you put in a correct warehouse number, a feature that was very nice, indeed.
Mission 3: Framed
There's a spider in the underground tunnel thing you surface in upon going through the water tunnels.
The patch seems to have fixed a glitch that causes the engineer near the front desk to get stuck on the desk when walking past and walking through it.

They changed the spiders in the "meat warehouse", the safe and music is a recording studio not a mechanist hangout.
In the area near Davidson's office, climb the crates. Or drop in through the skylights to the top of the stacked crates. There are items and loot hidden up there.
In framed, there is loot in the water, and the spiders can be avoided, and don't forget the "dead torch" secret switch.
There are numerous secret passages and shortcuts in the police station. Some are accessed through fireplaces, and others through pictures or panels on the walls.
In Soul Forge (you have a way to go) they changed some of the Warbots and other items.
Unless you load and keep both (in seperate installations and folders) for comparison, you won't easily see or notice the changes the patch makes.

Thanks for the change notes!

Ahh, that explains things! I thought the harp was weird...
I'm trying to play all the way through and see what I notice. Right now, I'm only on the mission after First City Bank and Trust. I think I'll just patch the game after this playthrough.
I don't remember correctly... in the mission where you have to listen to the conference, I don't believe there was a bot there in the patched version. Am I just imagining things?

There definitely is a combat bot in the patched version of Eavesdropping.
