Thief 2 Problem: I can't see enemies

Hello!
I just installed Thief 2 ME on my computer.

I have:
AMD Duron 800MHz, 384MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 400, 32 MB
My OS is Windows XP with SP2 and with DirectX 9.0.
I have installed NVIDIA ForceWare 81.85 Drivers.

The problem is this: when I start the first mission, I cannot see enemies/guards, or even Basso, like they are invisible/transparent. But I can see the key that guard is wearing.

I tried removing semicolon in front of the safe_texture_manager.
I tried turning on/off fog, sky detail, changing resolution...
I have read FAQ ;) .
Please help me if you have any ideas...

I had this a while back and it was caused by video driver versions - see (http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98375) here.

Thanks, I will try to roll back to an old driver.
But, is that the only solution? Is that a bug in nvidia drivers or in dark engine?

I'm guessing the phrase, "If I can't see them, they can't see me." doesn't apply here...?:p

Unfortunatelly, roll backing to an old driver did not work... :(
Any other ideas? Please...
