I really like Thief 2's ladders. (Thief 1 is probably the same.) They give you a lot of flexibility with how you go up and down them (frontwards, backwards, pretty easy to attach to once you get the hang of it) and freedom of movement (left, right) while you're on them, unlike many other games these days. Getting off them at the bottom fortunately doesn't usually require me to jump off, like it does for some people. Not sure why that is, but it might have something to do with the menu option mentioned above. I do occasionally have to jump off, which is annoying, but I'll take that minor inconvenience over how much freedom of movement they offer any day.

I got the ladder thing, though I did have to jump to get off them- a bit awkward.
Finally finished this mission- man, I felt like I was in those warehouses forever!
