I've just got the Sold out version of Thief 2, and I was looking at the walkthrough for the first level and it mentions something about a cook being in the kitchen, however when I played through, there wasn't anyone there, so I'm wondering whats up, cause it's meant to be the final version. So yeah any help would be appreciated.
Thanx in advance

He won't be there if you play on Normal difficulty. I can't remember if he's there on Hard, but he should certainly be there on Expert. Does that address the probable reason? The walkthroughs are usually written for Expert, but a few may include information about the other settings.

Ah I didn't realize that it was due to the difficulty setting, I though it just affected the AI and objectives, so yep thats the reason. Many thanks :thumb:

You're welcome.
The difficulty settings affect variables such as the number and type and placement of AI and usuable objects, how many health points you can have, areas you can enter, objectives, and texts, and more. Also, the onscreen hints in the early missions aren't there on Expert.
Oh, and welcome to ThiefGen.

Uh, maybe move thread to (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=84) Thief Series: Hints and Spoilers?
That way, Freezer can just continue this thread, if more help should be needed as the game progresses.
Good luck, btw.

IMPORTANT - this should definately be added to the faq too.
Apparently the sold out versions aren't actually the proper final patched levels. I don't think they are there originals either. (Was there 2 thief 2 patches?) Anyway, apparently you need to download the unstripped missions or something.
I'm not really sure, but hopefully someone will be able to point you in the right direction.

One of my T2 copies is a Sold Out 2CD release (actually the packaging says Big Bytes, put out by Australian budget label Red Ant. But all the docs on the CDs refer to Sold Out), only the Premier v1.18 patch works on it.

The
UK version of the Sold Out T2 includes the relevant 1.18 patch on the CD.
SOME copies of the S.O. T1 contain the 1.33 patch, but also many do not, and needs to be downloaded.

Yes, I too have the Sold-Out versions of both 1 & 2 and am new to the Thief series.........
In Thief:The Dark Project, after spending ages trying to solve how to fix the black screen problem, and eventually solving it, the thing thats bugging me now is, I discovered that sound effects work on the main menu/pause menu, but don't work in the actual game properly. I can hear the voice acting & weapon sounds, but in the training mission I think you are meant to be able to hear the noise of your footsteps while you are walking across the carpet & metal when doing the sound part of the mission, but I can't hear anything, and thus, can't complete this part. Also, is there meant to be music? (I wouldn't know as I never played the game before this!)
Any ideas to fix this?

I have the Thief 2 Sold Out cd and it definitely has the latest patch - albeit it's on the other disk and you have to install it after the main game is installed.
There are a few differences between the version on cd, and then when the patch is applied. For example, in Running Interference there is a very alert archer guard who patrols the courtyard. He is taken out completely in the patched version. Plus they changed a few small spiders into rats in some locations. If the walkthroughs are based on the unpatched versions, it's possible there could be a difference - but there shouldn't be many.
