when I click on the thief 2 icon, the picture of the thief guy appears for a few seconds and the the screen goes black. After a couple more seconds of the black screen, I get the "encountered a problem and needs to close" message and I am forced to close it.
I have tried almost everything on the help thread and it has changed nothing.
My computer specs:
Windows XP Home with SP 2
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3800+, MMX, 3DNow, 2.4GHz
1022MB RAM
Direct x 9.0c
ATI MOBILITY RADEON Xpress 200 series (128 MB)
Tell me if you need any more information about what happens.
Thanks in advance.

READ THE FRICKIN FAQ!
ALL OF IT!

There is a link in the Thief Series FAQ thread concerning this problem. :)

Okay, just to make sure, I went through all of the FAQ's again, and none of them have helped at all.
Please help me if you can.

have you reinstalled?
kazmaniandevil05 on 18/9/2006 at 01:38
I have reinstalled it numerous times with typical, minimal and full many, many times. I have also done many of the FAQ suggestions after I installed it the different ways. I am completely lost. :(

READ THE FRICKIN FAQ!
Ok, this is beginning to piss me off.
Point out which FAQ entry is specific to this guy's problem?
Hint: There is none.
If there is not a specific entry for a problem do not link to the FAQ, especially not in such a condescending manner, it is not helpful in the slightest and if there is a specific entry, then link to it rather than "lol read all of it"

Alright, if you would like to know which "FAQ entry is specific to this guy's problem" the closest one would be "Game Stops Responding (Hangs) or Quits Unexpectedly When Introductory Video Clip Is Played"
(Sorry for pissing you off):D

Try to play one of the game's movies in your Windows Media Player. If it crashes with the same message, it is most likely a codec problem. If so, consult the FAQ again how to fix codec issues.

All of the "Titles" list a THIEF CRASH problem.
Game Stops Responding (Hangs) or Quits Unexpectedly When Introductory Video Clip Is Played
Game Freezes within a minutes / Running Thief on a Dual-Processor System or Got a Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading, a Pentium 4 D or an Athlon 64 X2?
Direct 3D Device does not accurately report texture memory usage, or Help! I only get a black screen!
A thurough reading of the "Titles" dealing with crashes might have information. The listings are a little too specific, or multi-problem. I suspect that people don't read them at all just the titles. If the title is not worded the way the user thinks or as he relates to his/her problem, they don't read it.
Often when someone else points out a piece of info and they actually READ the damn thing, the response often is "I missed that, or I didn't read that one."
True, I was abrupt, but RTFM or RTFFAQ, and ALL of it, should be the first thing, not the last.
