Thief 2 strange beginnings.

Hi,

I've just started to play Thief 2 again. I'm using darkloader. And at expert level.

I start mission 1 blow the whistle and get the message and follow Basso into the house, Basso runs through the corridor past the guard room. There he is spotted by the guard who promtly kills him. End of mission!! This has happened three times now.

Any clues as to what is happening?

I suggest that you don't blow the whistle until you've disposed of any guards that might spot Basso when he runs to unlock the door.

Exactly, your objective is to clear his path. Check your maps for more detail. Do not blow the whistle until the path is clear. :o)

When you first start the mission, you're told:
"You'll need to scout ahead to make sure Basso's route is safe."

While doing that, you have to meet the other objectives.

After you've met all the other objectives, go back outside near Basso and blow the bird whistle.

Pay attention to your obectives!

Btw, what "message" is it that you get? What does it say?

The message would be 'objective complete' because blowing the whistle is an objective.

Someone once pointed out that you have to get so close to Basso that it would be simpler to just go up the room and whisper "Basso, you can go in now".

Ah ha ha ha. Why he die?

I'm not believing this playing Thief 2 "again". How did this guy manage it the first time? Should have let this play out some more guys, you gave the answer too quick.
