Hi
So I've previously owned thief 2 on steam, however I was getting stuttering every few seconds. On the steam version I had the
-Tafferpatcher (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131106).
-Open AL 2.1.0.0. (
http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/10-openal/) .
-Thief 2 sound enhancement (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119405) .
I just bought the thief 2 the metal age on gog, and tried out the first mission without any mods and didn't get any stuttering! So I was just wondering which of these mods I should download than? I think Thief 2 on gog has something similar to tafferpatcher, but honestly I don't care about graphics that much. Much rather have a locked 60fps. Actually don't know what open al does to be honest. But in audio I have Hardware Acceleration open Al as my choice. It sounds good only thing is certain times things that I feel like should be louder are actually a lot quieter. Like picking up something and throwing it down. So should I install the sound enhancement and open al? And if so should I start a new game? Only beaten the first mission so I won't have to redo much.
At this point, I want to keep the framerate locked at 60 fps no matter what. So graphics can stay the same, but I would like the sound to be better!

I don't think the GOG version is that different from the Steam version, that being said, the GOG version would most likely run better because it can be installed in more straightforward install paths and it doesn't need to be configured to require to be signed in to a client first.
Tafferpatcher is pretty much a bug fixing patch program, the enhancement packs, textures and model upgrades it provides are all secondary and optional. You can just patch your install with Tafferpatcher and have all the other options unchecked, and it should run well.
I've not tried the other two mods, so can't help you with that.

the GOG version uses NewDark, and has a bunch of mission fixes as well, so it's superior to the steam version. would install TafferPatcher anyway, you don't have to go for the graphics enhancements but the overhauled resources are well worth it.

So what exactly would I get if I installed Tafferpatcher? Just a few bug fixes? Cause playing through half of the first mission, I really didn't get any problems. Also do you have hardware acceleration on,off, or on open al?

bugfixes to models, textures, level geometry, etc etc etc. the acceleration is for sound, whichever you prefer is fine.

What is Open AL ? Even the link provided provides no clue.
