I am currently using onboard audio controller (AC97).
I´m planning to buy Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS. Will there be any major performance gain in Thief 3 after switch or does it only affect the sound quality?

That's a good idea, you won't be disappointed. :)
I haven't noticed any loss or gain in terms of performance (I have an Audigy Player Platinum or something with the EAX4 & HD compatible) but the sound quality is excellent and you will enjoy the EAX-HD effects. :thumb:

Onboard sound is ALWAYS el crappo. They have to use the lamest junk possible in order to not affect the costs of the board much. So basically, you're comparing a $100 sound card to a $2 one.

I bought the Audigy 2 ZS & I noticed that there was a performance gain (there are articles on the net that test game performance with the zs). Besides when the Dark Mod comes out you have support for open al & eax 4 which definately improves the doom 3 experience (the doom 3 part = :bored: ). Anyway t3 sound is a lot better with eax multiple environments.

Just installed my new sound card (SB Audigy 4). About 4fps performance gain and a much better sound quality:D :D

I just bought an Audigy 2ZS for my laptop, and the sound quality is awesome for TDS, and also for TG, TMA. A great sound upgrade. But I have one problem. I cannot hear Garret's footsteps in TDS !!!!. Anyone knows why??
