ADVICE NEEDED; OPINIONS REQUESTED; PLEASE.
I'm new to the Thief series and have just got Thief 3 (not tried it yet).
1. Is it necessary, adviseable and so on to Play Thief I & II first?
2. Thief I & II (as far as I know) are only available on PC (and due to their complexity are best played by mouse/keyboard) - which may present a problem (see point 3).
3. PROBLEMS: I struggle (physically) to play PC games by keyboard - so, reluctantly usually have to opt for console versions unless the game is gamepad friendly.
Could some kind person advise me/inform me/give me their opinion
about the above points. Thanks.

1. You don't need to know, but you'll miss the references.:p
2+3. There's a gamepad thread somewhere around here. The keyboard will probably suit you well enough since the game is based more on timing and planning than straight out action.

You say you struggle physically. Does that mean you have a handicap or are you just not practiced in using a keyboard and mouse? If you're just not practiced I suggest giving it a try as Thief happens at a MUCH slower pace than standard shooters like Doom or Unreal. You usually have plenty of time to think before you act. Thief was the first PC shooter game I ever played so I was a complete noob when it came to operating the controls. It actually added to the fun because I was so bad at the start.
So we around here will recommend that you play from the beginning. But if it's just not your thing...sure go ahead and grab T3 for your console. General consensus is it's not as good as T1 and T2 but it's still a great game.:)

Thanks TTK12G3 - your advice helps. I now know my options are open.
I certainly was glad when I stopped playing Shadowheart Covenant after a couple of hours to get and play Shadowheart first. The references did make a difference to my overall enjoyment, but of course, they were both console games.
Thanks also SlyFoxx - no I'm not exactly handicapped but cannot sit at a PC for more than a short time (long boring story). If I were rich I'd have bespoke furniture made, but I'm not, so I can't.

Blast it! Okay, you've convinced me. I've found a thread re using gamepads with T I & II so I've just ordered Thief I & II (used) from ebay. (Don't worry, I won't hold you responsible if it's a disaster).
Now me and my aching body off for some much needed physio!
