Whenever I play T3, it actually runs well - with one large problem. My computer will randomly restart. It usually happens when a section has just finished loading, but occasionally happens during gameplay. Does anyone know what the heck is going on here, and how it can be fixed?
I just got the game on a DVD with Hitman: Contracts that came free with my new soundcard. I also managed to get Theif 2 and Deus Ex on a free DVD, go figure. Only those actually worked right.

The same problem happens to me. I've found the solution is to save using quicksave one hell of a lot. It appears to happen more often with the load/save from the menu as opposed to using quickload and quicksave. Other than that, there's nothing you can do about it.

But there must be some other solution, as it's making the game unplayable! There's one area that makes it restart the second I walk into it. :(

Well... I kinda got the same problem... everytime I play for a long time, like for two hours or something, the game automatically closes. It might be a bug or virius in your case.

What section/area?

Is it Auldale (only accesible by Old Quarter)? There seems to be a problem when entering solved by:
a) patching;
b) quicksave once the loading screen disappears, then quickload.

Every single time I try to walk into Terces Courtyard in the StoneMarket Plaza it crashes. I can't get into the area. Otherwise, it only happens when a level section has finished loading - but that's slightly different, as it actually gives me a windoze message that says "Theif: Deadly Shadows has encountered and error and has had to close" with the error report button. It only displays the message for a moment before restarting. However, in Terces, it restarts instantly.
The game was patched to version 1.1 out of the box. It came on a DVD with Hitman: Contracts along with my soundcard (Audigy 4).
Did you receive a letter from a fence?
If yes, a cutscene will show in Terces, maybe that's it - video error?
Also I had some crashing when trying to load/enter a new section - it was caused by long DVD reading (because of the game makers movies) try this:
a) launch the game, exit, launch again
b) disable them manually (I don't know how, but it is possible)
c) download minimalist, it disables the movies

I did recieve a letter from a fence. However, the copy of the game I am running does not require a disk, and instead runs straighgt from hard disk. It ran the intro cutscenes without any problem. Perhaps I should try inserting the disk?
But also, if I try going to Terces before I get the letter, the same problem happens, so I doubt that's it. Also, doesn't disabling the movies cause you to lose some of the story?

I mean the movies with ION and nVidia logos - which open when you launch the game. The cause long reading of the DVD and crash the game when trying to load or enter a new zone. Insert the DVD, I managed to run Thief without the DVD in, but later it required it.
