Alright so I purchased a new PC. (Had to get one through a manufacturer for my work's PC purchase plan)
I was a little nervous about Vista at first, but a trusted friend told me that he hasn't run into any problems with it and it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
Anywho...
I decided to install and run through Thief 3 again and ran into a fairly strange problem. There are no in game conversations where I know there should be. The people who should be talking just stand in place and stare at each other, but if they see or hear me, they act normally and attack me or run away.
Other than no conversations, the rest of the game seems to work normally. AI act normally. They patrol, mutter to themselves, etc.
Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Dont know the cause of problem, but here are couple of things you can try out: Try re-installing the game. Ensure you have latest graphics and sound card drivers, alongwith latest DirectX runtimes. You can also try to run the game in 'Windows XP' compatibility mode..

This was something weird with audio caching I think.
Try turning variations of turning off hardware acceleration and EAX together or seperately and see what happens.

I've tried the compatibility mode solution, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'll try patching it and seeing what happens.
When I went into the options, I could only check the very first option. I know that the sound is on board, but I figured it could handle it since it's a fairly high-end PC. I suppose I could always just put my Audigy in and see what happens, but I'd rather not void my warranty.
Any other ideas? It's just so add that every other sound aspect of the game seems to work just fine. :weird:

Your problem is letting someone convince you into getting Vista. XP home edition works fine, and I only got that because my 98 died on me. I'll wait till the planned obsolescence dies down a bit to buy anything new.
