Incredible... finally i was able to buy a new pc and run Thief3.
But i'm a little shocked... i don't like it.
I must admit that the Team did a good graphic job.. but all seems a missed Thief2 version.
The baddest thing is that the feeling and the phatos that you can find in each mission is too low or totally absent.
My hopes now are all in the future fan missions.
Come on guys LET'S ROCK

Yeah, it's sad. Even the T3 fan missions seem to be a bit on the low side. I feel part of it is due to the severe limitations of the editing tools that the community wrestled from Ion Storm's death grip. They're simply far too locked down. With Dromed, there were ways to push it further...but in T3Ed, a lot of things are just locked down and unable to be changed.
Hopefully Dark Mod will be able to please folks in the future.

I know the feeling. I just got myself a copy of Thief3 when I bought Bioshock. I started playing with high hopes since bioshock, although not fulfilling all the expectations, still was a pretty damn entertaining game. Both Thief3 and Bioshock got a lot of criticisms from the old-school crowd, so I figured Thief3 would be about as good compared to Thief as Bioshock was to Systemshock2... but so far, the game strikes me as horrid!
They have managed to completely screw up the greatest player interface ever: I never felt more agile and mobile then playing Thief, in Thief3 on the other hand the interface is cumbersome and the movement is lumbering and ungraceful. I tried reducing the graphic, thinking that it was some lag due to dual-core problems or some such... but to no avail. Is it really supposed to be like this? There is no flow what so ever, I get seasick from watching the screen push forward in little leaps... like I said; it feels like lag, not running. In fact, it feels like everybody feared it would feel when they started talking about 3rd-person perspective: It feels like a
bad port!
It sure highlights the brilliance of Thief 1&2, though. Before Thief3 I thought it was just the idea of a first-person-sneaker that was genius, now I know it also requires perfectly balanced controls to pull it all off.

It's decent. Worth playing for the Cradle alone.
But the City sections are horrid, everything is in monotonous colours and the city seems less steampunk.
ah well

But T3 and Bio are definitely similar to a degree. The same type of childish cartoony graphics, huge objects like switches, tape recorders, etc., not nearly perfect physics (small objects unrealistically fly off from under protagonist's feet, the same vibration of limbs of the dead bodies).
Now I'm sure that Unreal engine is totally inappropriate for 'serious' games. Just compare Source engine visuals (HL2, Dark Messiah) or Stalker ones, f.e., with this type of graphics. I think Bioshock and T3 would be so much better if devs chose more appropriate engine for these games, even if all content would stay the same.

For me T1 and T2 are great games, because T3 - for a console Xbox was one of several design mistakes that made T3 a lesser game than the first two.

I just received my (pre-owned) copy of Thief 3 in the mail yesterday morning. I played the demo of the PC version when it first came out but this was my first proper run at the full game. I've completed the training mission so far so I can't really judge the game on any level. But it just doesn't have that feel that the older Thief games have.
I'm also currently replaying through thief 1, currently on the Assassins level. Finding this forum inspired me to play through it again, realizing that there was still a community out there that respected and adored this series as much as I did.
I can't wait to play the Cradle level, I've read so many comments about how terrifying it is and since I adore horror on any level, it should be a treat for me.

I don't see Thief as the sort of game you should be playing drunk.
After a few joints or bongs, yeah, but drunk? Guaranteed disaster.

finished it on my xbox afew days ago.. and I can only say that it's not as
Thief 1 and 2 in game play and feeling but it's sure the best that ION could
do with the budget (and EIDOS on their backs).
It's not that bad. There wasn't much of "looting" as it was in the previous
games and it did feel kind of slow in the plot evolution. overall it's an enjoyable
game :).
