We've all had a few years to calm down and gain some perspective. Thief DS does not live up to its full potential, but it mostly retains the trademark atmosphere and stealth gameplay. Despite its flaws, TDS is an obviously genuine attempt to meet the community's impossibly high standards.
I can't be angry at Ion Storm, they clearly laboured over their product, and under less than ideal circumstances, still created a highly enjoyable and above-average experience.

Nay, it was Ion Storm itself that set the bar hight, so high in fact that it was impossible to meet what should have been a basic goal. They were a professional development company, and should have known going in that this type of game would take a lot of resources to pull off well. Instead, they squandered a lot of their time focusing on bling bling.

Once again, the keyword for most problems is :
MULTIPLATFORM
Nuff said.

The problem I have with Thief DS is how incredibly un-thief like the game becomes as you progress. I stopped playing shortly after the Cradle. The whole story has you running around being an errand boy for the Keepers. Steal this, do that, etc... There is hardly any free-form thief goodness in the entire game.
Running from those Keeper creatures, then those damn statues, it seems like Ion Storm had hardly a clue about the Thief legacy.
Two good things about the game are 1: the compass is part of the light gem and always on screen; 2: the fact that the screen doesn't change resolutions when reading scrolls and such.
The bad things could take all morning to list, but the shit I hate has to include the long load screens (that first throw you back to the desktop as if the game is ready to crash); the overuse of blue everywhere, and those tiny levels.
I'm playing Deus Ex IW right now, and I must say it's flaws are just as grievious.
Fuck Ion Storm for trashing these franchises.

I could not stand Invisible War. Don't get me wrong, I love the original Deus Ex and its one of those games that I KNOW for a fact i'll play through again in the next couple of years for what will be like the fourth time but still. The second one felt so ordinary and uninteresting too me. Didn't help that I was running it on an Xbox and it wasn't quite perfect but still. A tottaly uninteresting game for me. I can't even specify any faults, it just didn't stick out in any way or form.

Just as large portions of Thief 1 and 2 dealt with The Trickster and Karras. I swear some of you just make crap up to bitch about in regards to this game. Oh no: there's a lot of
blue in the game. Hey, there's was as much
orange in Thief 2.

Yes, steal this, do that. That's what hired thieves do, or am I mistaken? Why you were running around when you were supposed to sneak around?

Oh there is, Trickster be praised. You have 5 city districts to explore and optional miniquests to accomplish. You aren't being taken forcibly from one mission to another. You have to find entrance points to missions by yourself. You have choice in what order you want to accomplish Pagan Sanctuary and St. Edgar's Eve, Abysmal Gale/House of Widow Moira and Sunken Citadel. And as a bonus, optional Pavelock Prison.

Not unlike running from Haunts or Ape Beasts. But if somebody has to run from any NPC in Thief games, he most likely just failed in stealth. You have the best clue about the Thief legacy? No.

I don't know, probably something to do with crappy GPU/monitor. Also, buy more RAM.
64MB of X-BOX's RAM. Multiplatform is a trend in the business which developers didn't make up. Fill in your complaint form and send it to Eidos.

Yes, fuck all LGS veterans like Randy Smith for overseeing this whole thing, Terri Brosius and Laura Baldwin for writing a pretty conclusive story, Eric Brosius for giving it that right audio feeling, Chris Carrollo for programming it and all of them for even trying to put a big effort into making a Thief sequel.
Or fuck some unreasonably whining spoiled fans? More like that.
