I like this mission. It's cool! Small, but interesting. I've completed it with 100% loot, ghosting everywhere. Nobody was aware of my presence.
Even the cook while I stole the bowl :P

I like the guards in the interrogation room, the story with the daughter, the priest... Cool mission!
Thank you, Bho! Best wishes!

in the small room w the priest what the heck does the "Break it down now!" plaque mean?
(other than a line in a song or a reference to to a certain type of street dancing! haha!!)
i thought it meant the statue since the plaque was on it's pedestal. but i could'nt "break it down" tried the broadheads u get, tried to get up onto the pedestal to have a go at it w the dagger too! could'nt get up there!
(even tried to pit Garrett's bod vs. the whole damn thing, could'nt topple it!)
(think i need those US soldiers who arranged the toppling of that al caida one in Iraq!)
So...????????
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
man i just LOVE my method for killing evil sob's who really NEED to be killed when i can't have their death count cuz of the "non combatant" clause!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
well, another buggy FM darn it!
(that's 2 in a row!)
have entered the code square,diamond,square,circle, pulled lever, got a "powering down" sound, NOT any "horrific grinding" noise!
BUT, door is still closed, and it does'nt even highlight, so i can't interact with it myself!
(and i have read the notes! and all other objectives are done!)
ARGH, where's Terminex when ya need em!
YUP, BUGGY!
what ya gotta do is change ea shape to one NOT in the combination, then activate it, then change it back to the combination (make sure the lever is in the up position tho), then activate it again, and then you should get the green light!
(on 2nd thought, maybe it's not buggy, maybe the damn security thing just needed to be constantly RESET! after all, it WAS put in by Gorman, and we all know what an anal retentive bustard HE was!) ;)
still wish i knew what was up w that plaque tho! :(

Linda,
Beg my pardon again but I had long forgotten about the 'Castle Black' mission. I saw the post I had made back in '07. Wow but that was some time ago and I had since uninstalled T3 and then tried to install it again and it wouldn't install so I have been unable to play any T3 mission for quite a while.
I have been instead playing the new Dark Mod missions and have been enjoying them a great deal and some time I am going to get assistance in reinstalling T3 on the machine again.

The mission is called Escape from Castle Black on some sites and in this thread, but the title as stated in the mission info file is "Jailbreak". The mission's files are titled Jailbreak.sch, Jailbreak.con, Jailbreak.gmp, Jailbreak.ibt and so on. I can't find any mention of a Castle Black anywhere in the game. The mission's antagonist is called Lord Martell, not Black.
On the other hand, Bho posted in this thread and they as the author did not object to the thread title, which at the time I am posting this is "Thief 3 FM: Escape from Castle Black Dec. 5/05".
Stats:
* Expert difficulty
* 24 minutes
* 100% loot
* 0 hints needed
Elements I liked:
* I felt this mission can be an inspiration for new authors: It avoids complex architecture entirely, consists of only simple interior rooms, but still manages to be atmospheric and fun to play.
* A new objective appears after the first few areas of the mission. Too few fan missions to this.
* There are several small stories about inhabitants of the place for the player to uncover.
* The combination lock puzzle worked with no problems at all.
* The scene in the interrogation room with (presumably) Milton and Craig was a surprise.
* I like the way the copper bowl is handled: It is hidden out of sight, but you get a hint on its location if you read the journals.
* T1/T2-style latrines make a comeback. I don't remember any of these in the original campaign or in previous fan missions for T3.
Elements that could be improved:
* The mission eschewes exterior areas and consists of simple interior rooms only.
* Wall textures look pixelated.
* In the exit area, two guards near the door are facing the wall, unmoving.
* Getting 100% loot felt too easy. I would have appreciated a few pieces of harder to find loot.
Bugs:
* Every AI that is sleeping on a bed or sitting on a chair floats in the air above it.
* After the stats screen, the mission loads Garrett's South Quarter apartment and you get the Heartless Perry objective from the original game.
* The mission once crashed after I fiddled with the combination lock and then made noise in Lord Martell's room.
Hints for the combination lock:
* Hint #1: Check the journal in the kitchen, one floor down from the top floor.
* Hint #2: Check the journal in little Lavinia's room on the top floor.
* Spoiler: The combination from left to right is square, diamond, square, circle.
