Alright, so, I really can't find a solution for this and I need some help. Also, I don't know if it's the right board, so my apologies if this isn't the place to report bugs.
Whenever I'm moving next to or around objects, they appear to 'shiver'. As if the 'lag' behind me while I move. This isn't a framerate issue as the rest of the world moves normally.
I have no idea how to fix this and it's driving me insane. (
http://youtu.be/YfKHAd07La4) I posted a video of it here.
EDIT: I'm playing this on a high-end machine at 60 frames per second.

The only suggestion I have is this: Install the (
http://"MouseImprovements=false") Sneaky Upgrade if you haven't. Find the options folder through the start menu: Programs / Thief 3 Sneaky Upgrade / Local Folders / Options. Open SneakyOptions.ini, change "MouseImprovements=false" to "MouseImprovements=true", and save it. (If the line is not found, add it under the [Tweaks] header.)
Despite the name that option also removes some motion blur. Whether or not it's an improvement will depend on your graphics card.
If it's not an improvement you may want to post your hardware specs and driver versions.

I tried that, but no dice. In fact, I think the effect is even more noticeable now. I'm using the GOG version, if that helps.
I really don't think the hardware is the problem, as I have absolutely no problems with any games. Even Deus Ex: Invisible War (runs on the same engine as Thief 3) doesn't have this problem.

I had the same problem and it was my graphic card. Somehow it didn't "like" the game. Maybe some driver issues or whatever. When I used my other graphic card(I have two in my pc) it worked without any problems.
Edit to add: Also High-End PC here. ;)

Really? Aw, man. I don't have a spare graphics card. I guess I'm going to have to get used to it.

I have this same problem too. Its actually more noticeable for me at the first window during the training mission. If you go up to the shrubs in front of the window and strafe while turning you aim, the jitter is extremely noticeable because the shrubs almost look like they're bouncing. Also inside the inn, after knocking out the inn-keeper, when going up the staircase the game starts to jitter again and drops massive frames too.
I've read that ATI cards might be the problem, I have an HD6770. As a horrible workaround I've limited the framerate to 30 just so that the jitter and FPS drop aren't too noticeable. But I'd really like to play in 60fps. What Lotos said about changing the video card to an Nvidia or onboard Intel might work too, I've read. I wish there was an actual fix for this.

I'll try limiting it too, thanks for the suggestion. It really sucks there's no workaround for this, apparently. It's not a gamebreaking problem, but it is extremely annoying. Especially since it's the kind of game where immersion is important.
I can't get immersed when everything's shivering.

I feel exactly the same way. Immersion is everything for me in this game. I've been desperately trying to find a fix for the last 2-3 weeks. I'm playing through all the Thief games and this one stopped me dead in my tracks with this problem. Thief Gold and Thief 2 were flawless experiences. I've gone as far as digging up my old Xbox version of TDS, but playing it on Xbox 360 is just as bad an experience. The software emulation messes with some light sources where you can see loot, torches, candles and window lights through walls.
When playing the Xbox version I noticed that this same stuttering seems to happen as well, although its not too noticeable because the console version rarely goes above 30fps. I don't think this happened in the original Xbox, which had an Nvidia GPU, but on the Xbox 360 it does and it just so happens to have an ATI GPU. So it probably happens specifically to ATI cards, whether on console or PC. This is kind of where I got the idea for limiting the PC version to 30fps, which I settled on cause I'm tired of searching for fixes.

Tea_All_Day you migt be right about that.
The first card I used(where I had the jittering) is indeed an ATI and the second is Nvidia.

I got the same problem with my XBOX version on 360.
