I just figured out ! You weren't wrong at all, you have to press a button to use the potion, but not the left mouse: you have to press I. The same applies for other usable side items that aren't weapons or arrows.

Glad you found it.
The keybind is under Options, Input, "Use Item" = "i"
Other keybind is under Options, Input, "Health Potion" = "F3"

But I also forgot how to climb. I know in T3 one couldn't use rope arrows.
Could you help me out again here?
Sorry to be so annoying, but how can I read notes and use keys. I found them in my items, but don't know how to use them. I wish I could find that little bookwork.

To climb, simply jump near a wall and you should stick on it. Be aware though, you can only climb up on walls made of rough brickworks.
As about how to read and use keys, left click a readable object (only highlighted books and notes) or a closed door, respectively.

You could try the keybind under Options, Input, "Use Item" = "i"
Or try the keybind under Options, Input, "Interact" = "Right-Click"

you also need to acquire the climbing gloves first.

You're welcome. By the way, did you install the HD texture pack for this game ? It enhances a lot the experience and you can also changes many minor details of the game.
