This is dating back a bit and i don't think people have really talked about it here (forgive me if i'm wrong) but When Looking Glass Studio's went under I was pretty much told that there were two projects about Thief they were working on. One was Thief 2 'Gold', which would be the same as what Thief Gold is to Thief. The other, was Thief 3. again, from a couple of sources i remember that Thief 3 was meant to have had work done on it. One information (sorry, i can't remember sources but this was some time ago) said some people were annoyed cause it was quite fair through and because of it being canned, it did mean alot of money wasn't paid, or something like that.. At the time, I didn't know about Thief 2 Gold so it's possible this project was in fact, T2Gold..
Anyway.. to sum up, Thief 3 was in the works and atlest something was playable.
Now, this doesn't sound too impossible. Thief Gold was basiclly Thief imported into the Thief 2 engine with some new levels (i know it wasn't just the same as that, but improvement wise ^_^; ).
Now, atlest Some versions of the new levels had been released for people to see, and the plans are around, However, is anything known of this Thief 3, that would have been the Third one, instead of Thief DS. Was the story idea reused, was there complete changes, was there even ANYTHING done or whatever.. Anyone know?

Thief 3 was not made, and no LGS T3 assets were ever released. All we have are dev comments about it, but the most info you'll find in one place are on the pages of Emil's Journal. It has notes taken during discussions for T2G and T3.
As for T2G, we have the infant and toddler stages of some T2G missions, minus new object models and textures and animations, just early architecture, object names, and the dev descriptions of what they were trying to do.
T3 didn't get very far at all, and we have more materials from other concurrent LGS projects, like Deep Cover.

It's hardly finished/barely started and only has a good chunk of three districts. It's definitely promising, but quite an undertaking, not including all it would take to remake the gameplay (not even worth the effort, really), let alone to build it according to canon:

If a certain uhm... current project is successful, it might be possible to build the whole of the TDS city in the Dark Engine. How playable such a huge mission might be, however, is a matter of debate.

Not quite true.... I don't think it was imported into the thief 2 engine. Sure there is new levels and some nicer textures and whatnot, but as far as I can tell from Dromed 1.37 (thief gold's editor) it's not actually the "thief 2 engine. "
My understanding is that they used the same engine for all four games (I say 4 because System Shock 2 uses the engine as well), but it was just modified each time so it was better.

yeah. What i was more trying (though badly trying) to get at is the improvements to the Engine for Thief 2 over thief 2 were things like wider colour pallets, larger texture maps, high quality sound samples, Wider Voice samples etc, which were atlest partly done for Thief Gold. It's one reason i don't quite understand why some people don't like to make FMs for Thief 2.. You can get the same feel and everything if you like, it was just engine enhancements.
I know, behind the scenes (like with DromEd) there were some major changes with script and the like but i wonder.. just what changes were to have been in Thief 3, and 'previewed' so to speak, in Thief 2 Gold.. even larger, more detailed textures? the ability for DIFFERENT Zombie heads? (okay, okay.. i just find it funny that no matter the zombie, it had the SAME head ^_^;)

Yeah, Thief 2's dromed is the best one to use if you want all the features and updates. As a small time FM designer, my plan has been to only use thief 2 after having finished my thief gold project(s).
Though if I ever get around to finishing my projects in another story.
