Back on topic: has there been any mention of
Thief 4 at E3? I haven't heard anything, but perhaps I missed the memo.
Oh yes. It's in all the 'E3's most likely to be vapour-ware' lists.

I think it's safe to bury the game. Even if it isn't vapourware, such an insanely long development time can mean only one thing: development hell, so the game will be weird at best, and complete garbage at worst.
You're assuming the game was actively in development when they announced it. I'm pretty sure they've said that this wasn't the case.

Written for Unreal Engine 3, and now Unreal 4 engine is looming large !
It's heading into Duke Nukem territory. I bet the folks at Infinium Labs (Phantom Console) even take the piss out of the length of T4's development.
T4 is SO vapourish that the Moderator's have removed the T4 section of the forum - which WAS one of Google's top pages for "Thief 4".
It is SO vapourish that even the great Rob Hicks knows he will release DED METAL before Thief 4, and he plans to NEVER finish DED METAL :-)

I was sure that it would be at E3 this year since it was not there in 2011. Consider me worried.

The T4 forum was becoming a bitch fest, it will be reopened when the time is right. I just checked, out of curiosity, on google, the dead link for here showed up at least for me on page 3.

Good find. If none of these are doctored, there's a good chance you're right.
We'd need to get those people in the dinner picture identified to be sure before veering into more speculation.

Good news is we have trained a caged hamster to make mocap anims.
Problem is it takes a very long time, but for a few cents a month to house and feed you really can't beat it.

Seriously though. If their update for a game is ONE set of motions they must be really focused on making the game perfect.
Someone who has never animated before could make a decent one in a month. A pro should have that done in 8-16 hours I imagine.

I got an hypothese why the game has been so silent these years:
Even if they are using Unreal4, I don't see how that explains the complete lack of news. I don't think most people are interested that much in the ultra technical aspects of the game anyway. They want to know if there will be rope arrows, Hammerites, and Stephen Russell.
