No doubt, reading his posts is like trying to decipher alien transcripts or something.

When do I NOT seem that way? Obvious chaos is obvious. Remember 2009/10? That was me ON meds! You WANT this, don't you? Gotta push the Absurd Panic Scramble button.
:D
Actually, this is chronic and detrimental insomnia triggered by whatever rewiring the meds induced back then. So now everyone I ever come in contact with becomes a victim of my chaos, and Hulk sad. *sniffle*

Keep in mind, it's been 3 years, but that's to this point in time. Do you see this game coming out this year? Next year? Most games 3 years into development have a little more information available, interviews with key people, presentations at various trade shows, and some of the marketing effort/hype machine has begun. There's none of that. This game seems to be a long ways from release.
I know of games that are 2 years into development and aren't even
announced yet (and may not even be announced this year). EM said right when they formed that they were making Deus Ex and Thief 4, with smaller dev teams, and
longer dev cycles. I can't imagine that they aren't planning a media blitz at this year's E3 for Thief. The Eidos portion of Squeenix's booth is going to be Tomb Raider and Hitman: Absolution playable on the floor, Thief 4 trailer on a loop with some other stuff, and a hands-off behind closed doors press demo.
The most likely reason for a hypothetical delay is that they're planning to re-target the console versions to the next-gen Sony and Microsoft boxes, which are coming next year, not that they're in some sort of feature creep hell. A lot of publishers are in the same boat, because launching (or re-launching) an IP at the tail end of a console cycle is the fastest way to kill it before it has any legs.

I'm cautiously optimistic that the silence is due to the fact that development is busy working on it rather than building up hype. I really doubt the development team has the resources and manpower that more popular games have, so given the discerning tastes of the fan community (let's face it, we're demanding) maybe they're just keeping things hushed until there's something more concrete in place and PR feels ready to field the wave of complaints. :cheeky:
As for the "games used to be better feeling," I used to get that, but I've been questioning it more. After I started university I pretty much dropped gaming for a good few years and now a good proportion games out there are utterly disorienting to me. I started out playing Hexen and Soldier of Fortune, but nowadays my 10-year old nephew can hand my ass to me at Modern Warfare. But if you asked my uncle, you're not a "true gamer" unless you've beaten all the episodes of Wolfenstein 3D.
I'm not a modern gamer, and sometimes I find new games that are widely touted as innovative or good to be unplayable. Disliking these changes are well and fine. Hell, I'm THE most crotchety old lady to my friends (those drooling slackers who weren't stupid enough to do eight years of post-secondary like me...) when they start talking about new releases. I'm REALLY hoping to be able to enjoy Thief 4.
I think what REALLY bothers me is that sometimes I can't tell whether some disliked design choices are made as a genuine effort to innovate or improve on gameplay (I can forgive those), and which choices are being driven by sales numbers (I know that it's an INDUSTRY, but fuck, you've got to draw the line somewhere). Being able to tell objectively whether or not a derivative work is being respectful towards the original or just looking to cash in on its successes is sometimes, but not ALWAYS an easy thing. :erg:
I guess this makes me open-minded but somewhat apathetic about all of this? :P

Poll missing the "It will be a couch gamer suckfest, so I just don't care anymore" option.
That's what I interpreted to be the "neutral" choice.

Well, E3 is coming up June 5th, if they have nothing to show there, then you know there are real problems.
Edit: redoing out of order post

Yet another unwelcomed anniversary present to fill our hearts with joy!...The two unwanted thoughts will haunt, even though we wish they would not...Could there be three? I wonder what the next gift will be?...Sally?...:(

Nothing is missing, as the three choices encapsulate one's basic disposition (positive, neutral, negative) towards THI4F, at this juncture.
It's a shame you don't care about the next THIEF game, even though you don't know for sure how it's going to turn out...Then again, you did vote for "After 3 years, I feel worried about THI4F"..."Worry" denotes care or concern, so you are contradicting yourself here.

I bet 100 bucks that this game is definitely going to be released in the next-gen consoles, which explains part of the trouble in the dev team, and actually the same thing happened to BGE 2, which was oficially anounced back in 2008. So, pelase people, do yourselves a favour, and don't expect any news about Thi4f until at least 2014 (2013 for those who still have f4ith)
