Looks like a PDA/Mobile that's put into some type of sleeve pocket.

Every time I see it, I can't help but feel they totally didn't understand the premise of the game.
Every time
I see it I can't help but feel the concept artist couldn't draw hands.

Surely a modern day thief wouldn't be wearing a fucking cloak and whatever other shit Garrett was wearing...He'd probably be wearing a hoody and cargo pants w/lotsa pockets.
Well, obviously...but you're missing the point. :) The concept art is just unoriginal. It's boring. It could be any average game. The setting was part of what made Thief unique. As I said, this guy just looks like a common thug...GTA style.

I agree. There is no feeling of Garrettness (That is a word, right?) about the character. Yes, he looks cocky, but so does any other thug type. He's nothing special.

Thief 4: Garrett joins a fraternity

Modern Thief? Why hasn't anyone mention Deus Ex? you can even download a lightgem for the original

I actually wouldn't mind a game in the spirit of the image, as long as it wasn't marketed as Thief 4. Why not?

And how the modern thief should look then? Surely he wouldn't wear Garrett's clothes and he wouldn't use Garrett's tools.

Did you not read the rest of the posts before responding? I already said that he's not going to wear Garrett's clothes and tools...that wasn't the flipping point. I was talking about the artwork failing to capture anything original...it could be any run of the mill character, in any run of the mill game. In any case, moving Thief into the future really does nothing for it and makes the game that really established the whole Stealth genre look like it's trying to emulate Splinter Cell.

If it was set in a future of the Thief world (as opposed to the future of our world) I think it could work. High technology versus primal magic is of course at the centre of Thief, and could translate into a steampunk future fantasy quite well.
