So here I was sitting after playing a bit of Thief 4, when I thought of something. Would it be possible to remake Thief 4 using the Thief 2 mission creator? The story wouldn't be any better but at least the gameplay would. Make it mission based by only remaking or reimagining the main missions, ripping the NPC dialogue from the official Thief 4 and putting them into this "remake's" NPCs and we could actually have a decent Thief 4.
That'd be neat. I don't know a single thing about the Mission Creator, so If this is impossible to do please tell me.

Eidos Montreal would probably sue whoever took part in such a project

True. But if possible it would be pretty neat to see right?

This has been discussed before, and yes, it would be a nice thing to see. But the legal issues would certainly prevent it and, more to the point, if your going to go through all that work, why not make a better game than Thief 4? It certainly wouldn't be hard to come up with a better story.
I think most people ask your question because they are so disappointed with T4 and would like to see it done right. But I can't say I think it's worth wasting time on. That's just my personal opinion.

I was indeed disapointed and you could come up with a different, better story. I think what I really want most is a well done remake of the levels from THIEF 4, because I thought the idea behind some of them was awesome yet poorly executed. A good example would be The House of Blossoms, it may have been ripped off from Dishonored, but if done right and with multiple paths and secrets it would've been great. Imagine "Assassins" but instead of following two assassins to a crime lord's mansion it would be following a rich dude and a guard to a brothel.

Make an 'inspired by' campaign set in familiar but slightly different settings, and play with the story by changing elements in fun ways. It's not just safer but more creative and fun.
Fortunately T2 gives you a license to many elements already too.

Garrett must find "Arin" who has become part of the "Primordial" while the "Burglar-taker General" who works for the "Lord" wants to kill him for damaging his arm. Meanwhile a man nicknamed "Horizon" plans to overthrow the "Lord", so he can become ruler of The City that has been plagued by a disease known as the "Grief". :cheeky:

I honestly don't see the point. Most of the concepts behind the missions in Thief 4 have been covered in many fan missions already (go through rooftops to get to a small yet rich mansion, climb a tower to the top, visit a haunted mansion/hospital, explore a ruined cathedral being guarded by religious fanatics etc.). Besides, I would like all that effort to go into a brand new campaign that would be more interesting to play than just a rehash of a game.
