it was not thief 4 ,but a reboot to series, and should be forgotten about
i would rather see thief 3 made onto thief 2 engine
as far as a thief 4 not sure with how things ended in part 3 it would seem impossible as thief missions were based on keeper info and with no glyphs keeps are in limbo
i say finish thief 3 on thief 2 new dark,i seen some of the city was already made
also thief reboot story was shit
I don't think porting Thief: Deadly Shadows to Dark Engine is a good idea. Why would one port a modern game (compared to Thief II: The Metal Age of course) to a technically old engine? Because of its technical limitations, it would be a disaster. If it were rebuilt using The Dark Mod (id Tech 4), it would be great I believe (or with a modern engine).
I wish to see the Thief trilogy rebuilt with a modern engine and with little to no changes to gameplay, art direction, voice files, etc. (but I think improved graphics would be nice, even though I don't really care about graphics). Valve gave permission to Black Mesa team to remake Half-Life, but I doubt Square Enix will ever let this happen. *sigh* If this happens one day, the Thief community won't have to deal with Dark Engine's technical limitations and problems anymore. Only one thing would remain: rebuilding fan missions :P

I agree, they didn't bill it as Thief 4; just Thief. It could have been any name but they got the rights to "Garrett"
If this community wanted to continue the actual series/events (and I am sure that many FMs already do) within the accepted canon/universe we could call it TTLG: Dark Legacy or something like that

Well, there is one good brothel mission I remember, it was in the Thief 2X fan campaign. There might be others I'm not aware of, too.
Thing is, for most of the rough mission ideas (brothel mission, warehouse mission, asylum mission etc) of Thief 4, there already are FMs out there that do the same concept better.
Better to write a new story that makes more sense for the character. Or even do a fan-sequel that takes Thief 3's ending and has the player play as the young girl Garrett catches stealing at the ending cutscene... the new master thief with Garrett as mentor. That might even have been the inspiration behind including Erin, but of course they screwed it up and made it silly. It would make way more sense to create a fan-sequel based on picking up where the original trilogy ended than to re-make the failure that is Thi4f. The potential devs could also try to fit it into the old trilogy thematically, by focusing on factions that had only been side-attractions before - Thief 1 had a very Pagan-focused story, Thief 2 Hammerite/Mechanist and Thief 3 Keepers. How about putting the narrative focus on the Mage Order, or on the more mundane factions of the City like different noble houses?
Everything would be better than just re-imagining Thi4f.
I guess you're right, we should just forget about the reboot. I'm not a big FM player (only finished one I believe) so I wouldn't know if those ideas have been done before.
Why didn't they just make a game that is just about Garrett taking jobs? No need for a complex storyline, just a series of cool missions. That would've been the perfect series revival! If it was successful then they could make a sequel with a cool storyline. Just call it "Thief: Tales from the City" or something. :cheeky:

Thief 4 is a joke to me. It seems that they did a reboot, but not an entire one, perhaps to try to keep a few old players by inculding some similar names such like Garrett, Basso, etc. And a trying to tell you with confuse elements that we are always in Thief Universe.
Thief 4's Garrett is not the triology's one according to them. We are just a new master thief living in the futur... (400 years after T3 if I remember correctly).
Honnestly, I hate how they turn it. To me, with Thief 4, you are not in the City, but in London during the industrial age!
As the Jarl said, normaly, the plot might have been focused on Nobility, Mages or anything else than the factions we use to deal with! It's true that the "official" Thief 4 did this, but as I said... it is not Thief universe! (Plus I hate Garrett's new avatar! How he is pale! He looks like a vampire!)
But it might have been also the mecanist again! Do not forget what a fisher man said in his book in T3! He saw an iron fish spitting fire with Cetus Amicus writen down on it, and the mecanist who own the submarine said in T2 that they wished to convert it into a war ship!
There is a good plot to start on that point isn't it?! ^^

New Garrett completely misses the point of the original. He's not supposed to be a brooding, emo dude who says he steals because "it's who I am". Old Garrett's reasoning for stealing was simply because he needed to pay the rent (and he also likes the challenge, I guess). They basically turned Garrett into Batman.

Someone should make an FM based on that!

Man, I need to get into the FMs more, this is cool!

Maybe not a full remake, but maybe a sort of mini-campaign that better explores the story of Garrett having an apprentice. Maybe following directly after the end of Deadly Shadows. I do think that, in the hands of better writers, seeing how a loner like Garrett handles taking on an apprentice could be an interesting character study.

Continue after TDS. That was going to be my vote too. Make a proper T4 with that setup, and don't faff around with the reboot version.

Well to be fair, sticking to the shadows isn't gonna give anyone a beautiful tan…
