Actually, I'm not sure this silence is a bad thing. They kept teasing about DX3 for years, but it took them longer to finish than they thought. Same thing happened to other developers too. I think they might be just waiting for the right time to start talking about it. They learned a lot during and after the DX3 development, they may have noticed that they must change some things, or the game needs more polishing in some areas, maybe they decided to make some things look better, added an extra level or two...
Point is, we can only guess, none of the "bad news" sounds really bad to me, just business as usual.

And Stephane D'Astous said we'll probably hear more about Thief 4 near the end of this year. Though based on his tweets, the release will be still some time away. Late 2013 perhaps? Anyway, if the game will be true to the Thief name, then I'm willing to wait.
