Ah, Discworld Noir, that was my first full game that I worked on. Considering it didn't sell so well, at least compared to the first two Discworld games, it's amazing how that's the one people seem to remember the most.
I remember getting Kate Robbins to sing a song on that game and being in awe of her due to her having perfect pitch and being Paul McCartney's first cousin (like her and Macca, I'm also from Liverpool).
If you ask very nicely, I might be able to dig out mp3s of the music...
Aw pwetty pwease with sugar on top?! (Was that nice, or vaguely disturbing?)
[Edit: it must have worked because I just noticed you posted a zip file back in March! Sneaky.]
Sorry, I'm so late to this thread! But I did really want to say that Discworld Noir was a huge part of my childhood which has stuck with me for the last ten years primarily because of the atmospheric music and gorgeous,
gorgeous songs. So thank you for that :D
You obviously have huge shoes to fill for Thief 4, but I think your feet are pretty big anyway. My only hope for the music is that it retains some of that "anachronistic" breakbeat which so beautifully characterises Thief for me a lot more than the moody ambience stuff. So do some of that, please, ta.

Wow I just came across this thread myself - I guess I should poke my head out the Editor's Guild a little more often....lol
It was nice to see that sitting there in the background between Paul and Mario was the three previous releases of Thief. Welcome aboard Guv, I await in anticipation...

speaking of Thief's music, this artist could have easily been the next composer for the Thief 4 soundtrack
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaznnrxOwPU) Yen Pox - NightriseI suggest you get the album "The New Dark Age", it is made of awesomeness, dark ambient at its best. ;)

All I can say to the Audio Lead is this:
1. Play through some levels of Thief 1 and 2. listen to the sounds. and when and where they are triggered. (you'll have a background ambient sound, with a triggering 'shrill' when you're near guards/dangers)
2. You want the sounds/music/triggers so cause a buildup of stress in areas...
3. The 'reversed speech' on the undead was so freaky scary... and done really well in T1 & 2)
4. You MUST have the voice actor Stephen Russell to do Garrett (Steve did Benny too, right?)
The cutscenes with the metal sounds.. hammers hitting.. gotta have that too!
just my 2 coppers :)

BTW -- Guvnor_P, do you by chance know anyone at Crystal Dynamics? (They did a few newer Tomb Raider games) and one of the sound guys was the lead singer from Information Society! (Kurt Harland Larson)
(electronica from the 80s and a recently released album).
I'm asking due to the Edios connection.
Just wondering.. :)

...or they could just slow down Justin Bieber songs by 800 percent. (

i use to be a big fan of a couple Crystal Dynamics games like gex and and star control 2,i use to love my 3do and they made alot of games back then for that system,3do is one of the best systems for the first cd game system, but most would never know unless you played most of the titles on it,yes some were bad ,but so many were good, and ended up being ported to later consoles, like need for speed and road rash, pebble beach/waialia/wicked 18 golf games
and who ever said burricks would be in thief 4 lol, they never even had any in thief 3
not sure a updated burrick would look good as i have grown fond of the version in first 2 thief games
best use of a burrick in my view is that 3 day mission, where i think on day 3 you had to rescue the baby burrick and follow it back to the owner and she will give you a amazing looking red loot bag
i think was called 7 witches? my count might be off,but i wish other would use the thief things more into there stories as in the thing that don't get used a lot,as in burricks and dew drop,i love to get those 2 red gem keys also in fan missions.
i am just scared thief 4 will mean i need yet again another new computer to play it,seems like they like to wait around 5+ years to release thief games just enough time for most all systems to be outdated
i remember when the first pixel shader came out with graphic's cards back when gateway was a popular company

Heh I see the assigning of someone who is not Eric Brosius has brought out the pitchforks :P
Sound design is integral to the Thief experience, it "sells" this genre of game imo. While all games (well at least most :P ) have sound it is games like Thief which really showcase how meaningful it can be to gameplay and the depth it brings.
It's not about a cool sounding explosion or gun noise, it's how it draws you in and immerses you in the game to turn it from a game to an experience - something I think that all Thief fans have feel when playing the Thief games - the wonderful audio ambience, the draw and drive the sound gives to the game.
Well, enough waffling from me :P The Guv will have things well in hand.

Sorry, only just popped back here. I'm contracted by Eidos so I don't have any connections with other studios. However as it happens I do know Kurt as we worked together on a cancelled project by Slipg8 (John Romero's company) just before I started on Thief. Great guy and I'm in regular contact with him.
