I look forward to these soundscapes. He's got a lot of raw and authentic sources all within driving distance.

So long, Guv'! And thanks for all the fish!

Yes. @Guvnor_P, whatever happened at EM, thanks for having taken the time to come around these parts to tell about your work. Your innovative vision was much appreciated here, giving hope to several old fans. I hope to hear what you put together whenever Thief 4 comes out, that is to say I hope you're leaving because the most interesting is done and that they won't throw your work away.

It's not looking like that's the case, Briareos. Unfortunately.

Weasel provided that little tidbit in the
Thief 4 Officially Announced! thread.
Wtf is going on over at EM anyhow? Or do I even want to know at this point?

Oh wow, that is bad news... I had assumed he had finished all the sound work and the project was far along. Sounds like quite the opposite. Guess it's back to :bored:

Sorry Weasel; guess I was speedreading again.

Did you guys read the job posting? To me it sounds like Paul Weir might have finished the generative music part and now they need someone to do the sound effects which I assume he had no expertise in since music and sound effects are certainly very different.
Calm down people...

As Audio Director, Paul Weir would have stayed on until the project was finished. This is because the Audio Director is the one ultimately responsible for all of the audio work on the project, whether he performs the work himself or delegates the various duties to other members of the audio team. He wouldn't have left the project simply because he was weak in a certain area, instead he would have assigned those tasks to other team members. This is standard practice.
No...I'm afraid that the only logical reason why Paul left as Audio Director, is that something untoward went down. He didn't like what was going on, they didn't like what was going on, or both.
Of course, this unfortunate event is extra discouraging being on the heels of the recent departure of Mario Aguera, the projects Producer. Although Mario has been recently replaced by Stéphane Roy, both of these incidents are clear signs of something going seriously wrong with the project.
Hopefully EM will get their act together, so that we may one day see a Thief 4...yet at this point, we can't be sure it will ever come to fruition. :(
