Did you guys read the job posting? To me it sounds like Paul Weir might have finished the generative music part and now they need someone to do the sound effects which I assume he had no expertise in since music and sound effects are certainly very different.
No, Paul isn't just a music guy, but also the sfx guy, been doin' it for quite some time, now, as mentioned earlier in the thread, with samples delivered to us by the man himself, from his work on Discworld: Noir.

Here on TTLG, you can find that he said, like I stated in a previous post above, he was creating all new original sfx from scratch for T4, and there are images and links provided for a glimpse into a recording session with a Jet engine company, collecting turbine engine sounds. Like I said as well, he wore three hats for T4, Audio Director, Sound Design, and Score, but I'm getting one of the exact job titles he listed for T4 wrong.

That would be Audio Director, Sound Designer, and Composer. ;)
jtr7 on 24/3/2012 at 07:26
Is that what he listed?
Vorn on 24/3/2012 at 07:40
Those would be the proper titles.

My Internet is horribly slow of late, so it's taken me way too long to do a simple search, but from his 2010 LinkedIn profile:
Quote:
I'm currently the off-site Audio Director for the Eidos game Thief 4 and am also the composer, sound designer and voice director on the project.
"Voice Director" is the title muddying up my memory, taking precedent over the narrow music aspect in this conversation I'm trying to add to here. I'd read it in a (

2011 statement of his not too long ago, and it's not an industry title that comes up as often as the others.
His current LinkedIn profile: (

Specialties
Audio director, sound design, composition, voice director, using Wwise, interactive music, generative music, lecturing and business development.
In other words, he's not just a music guy, and he wasn't just doing music for T4, but also, that there is exactly what areas he covered for T4. (I keep forgetting the extra 'W' in "Wwise".)
His current profile doesn't mention the Voice Director, generative music (GRAMPS/Wwise),
for Eidos-Montreal, for some reason.
Hahahaha! Sébastien Michel is calling T4 "THIAF":

This is because the titles of Audio Director, Composer, and Sound Designer cover the main aspects of importance. The others are secondary, integral aspects of the primary three...and these primary three inform us that he's not "just a music guy", so the other titles are superfluous in this regard.
Good for him. I guess that's one way to cope with that disgraceful logo. :laff:

I'm starting to get a really bad feeling that all is not well at EM regarding the development of T4. Nope, not a good feeling about this at all. Wish I could be a fly on the wall over there to get the real story.

I wonder if they feel they need someone in Canada working physically in with the actual team, now? Weir was working remotely from the UK, I imagine...he does say in that post jtr7 quoted that he was the "off-site Audio Director" rather than just "Audio Director". Which kinda implies there might be a need for an "on-site Audio Director".
Clutching at straws...?!

No...I'm afraid that the only logical reason why Paul left as Audio Director, is that something untoward went down. He didn't like what was going on, they didn't like what was going on, or both.
Of course, this unfortunate event is extra discouraging being on the heels of the recent departure of Mario Aguera, the projects Producer. Although Mario has been recently replaced by Stéphane Roy, both of these incidents are clear signs of something going seriously wrong with the project.
There are many reasons why someone would leave a job that have nothing to do with dissatisfaction with the employer or the work.
Not to mention that Blue Sky pointed out they could simply need someone to work on-site. The sky is not falling.

No, you don't understand. There isn't an "off-site Audio Director" and an "on-site Audio Director", there's only
one Audio Director. The Audio Director is the one responsible for all of the audio work, and he reports directly to the producer. With todays technology, practically everything can be handled remotely by the AD, whether by working directly in their own studio, or by managing other audio team members or contractors in various locations.
The departure of Paul Weir spells trouble with the project, one way or the other...so yes, you are "clutching at straws".

Go ahead and give me a valid reason, other than..."He didn't like what was going on, they didn't like what was going on, or both."
If he stopped working on the project because of a personal matter, such as a health issue, he wouldn't have continued working on other projects.
