Can I make a suggestion, load up Thief 2 and do all the things necessary to get it running and then install Dark loader

It's not a Thief game as such. You are a paranormal investigator.
But is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in the Dark Engine and the sound is great.
It will give you a glimpse of the community

Hey, it's good to hear from you! As long as you are not only familiar with Eric's work but are also a fan of it, things are looking good on the sound front! Yes, the sounds are a *very* important part of Thief. Are you doing the sound effects as well as any music? Remember, when a Thief title is made, you have the potential opportunity to have any of your work listened to for years to come. Make it memorable, my friend. :)

Agreed, as well as Thief 2X and so many more Thief 1 and 2 fan missions. Check out TDM if you have time too, just to get a glimpse of what the community is capable of doing on its own. :)
