To further explain, Brie, there are actually more people who won't be happy, not more who would be. It's not the hyperbole that I question, it's the fact that it's closer to the opposite of popular opinion, and reads to me like a template answer. Your exact word usage has been tossed into discussions dozens of times on two forums, and usually failed to appease or take enough into account. It works for a poll or a ballot box, but not for debate or discussion, and leaves a great deal to be explored and accounted for, so spurring on deeper talk is preferable.

If first time through a game when it's all new and mysterious is the best, then expecting player to know in advance that the tool attributed to button 1 is actually a crutch for avoiding most of the game-play on offer and that they might have more fun not using it is kinda, well, wishful thinking.
Based on the DX:HR experience, I agree. How many people went through that game the first time using non-lethal takedowns everywhere and hacking everything they could find because that approach yielded maximum XP and used the least resources, or wasted time scavenging weapons to sell for credits? Among TTLG'ers, it seemed like a lot of people did this, and then people complained the gameplay was repetitive. About 2/3 of the way through my first play I noticed that I already had every aug I wanted and was overflowing with spare credits and ammo. Only then did I realise that it's pointless to chase XP and hoard ammo in this game. On my second play, I only used takedowns and hacking when necessary and appropriate and enjoyed the game much more. But the first time through a game is always the most special.

Keep the blackjack. Keep the balance of the gameplay and mechanics, as suggested, by having AIs that cannot be blackjacked, etc., and other examples already demonstrated by the games themselves. Don't build in player-invented playstyles, but keep it organic and varied throughout, so all styles are challenged, as well as the character of the protagonist.
^ Agree with this.

So long as we get a nice leather bag of lead shot or smoothed stones with a wrapped handle, instead of the wooden baton with metal spikes they had the huevos to call a blackjack in deathly turdows... all will be fine.
Just like the monster truck hubcaps masquerading as mines, idiotic "perfect turn BEFORE you hit them", and dozen other things that ruined that steaming pile of manure are left on the cutting room floor where they belong.
But as I said before, I'd just be happy with a 1:1 update of the dark engine gameplay with modern graphics, and maybe a minor tweak or two so you can't blackjack someone in the knee. At the same time don't nebfer it down to uselessness like it is in TDM.

Leave the frakkin' blackjack in the game, ffs. You don't have to use it, but at least it'll be there for those of us who do.
'Nuff said.

Keep the tool set as is and let the player decide how to play.
