In their collective minds?

"Third Person - in certain circumstances like climbing. Can it be turned off - unknown (hopefully it can!)"
^^
This can be... acceptable.
Or intolerable.
I actually kind of like the 3rdP kill moves in Skyrim.
Mostly becasue thats the only time I get to see the outfits I've cobbled together in action.
But it also just looks cool cinematically.
On the other hand,
I never ride horses or play as vamps or werewolves becasue they made them 3rdP ONLY!
Completely defeated almost any use for the dawnguard expansion for me.
(Not worth bloating up my Skyrim folder by a gig and a half at least.)
It seems to me that all the 3rdP that bethesda shoehorned into Skyrim was part of the very obvious consolation efforts they made with that release.
And I'll bet thats what going on here also.
I like the dive/blink move though.
(I think I'll play a little Dishonored.)

...Dry Ice?!? REALLY????? So he's got a storage unit of the stuff? A place to buy or make it?
I didn't even think about that.
That does seem stupid now doesn't it.

What is wrong with water? You do not have to replace something JUST to replace it.
But how else will they make it look like they did something despite having nothing significant to add?
(Gangsta Bows notwithstanding of course.)
There might be something just inherently flawed about the reboot culture.

Obviously EM does. They want to totally own this reboot and I'd say that replacing items/aspects in a game just to replace them, as well as redesigning items/gameplay although they worked perfectly well in the first couple games is a good way to go about it. They're fixing a lot of things that weren't borked in the first place, plus adding their own kewl stuff they think is guaranteed to make all gamers want to go out & buy this game.

"The staples of the original Thief games — the sneaking, the stealing, the sly protagonist Garrett — have been recreated in what
the developers are calling a "pimped-out" version of Unreal Engine 3."

This game is doomed.
Its all over.

New Thief is same as the old Thief, so what's the problem? AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!I don't even ......

The author admits that he's only 'played a bit of the Thief games', but that much was obvious from the title of his article. Omg. Just oh.my.God.
Honestly! It's articles like that written by someone who's never really 'gotten into' the world of Thief that are going to make EM think what they're doing to Thief is okay. And then they'll just keep doing it. For cryin' out loud, just stop with the reboots already ('k, only played one so far - TR reboot - but it's crap and at this point I don't see T4 turning out much better)!
Excuse me, my head just exploded and I have to go clean up the mess.

Awesome awesome post! Great compiling thanks!
But man...Dry Ice?!? REALLY????? ... Hell I'd shoot it right inot the faces of guards to burn their faces and while they are bent over in pain and running for a doctor I'll steal all the gold.
A big chunk of me wants to be able to shoot shit arrows at the guards, just to see their stunned reaction. But that's just me.

Just in case you missed it... the title was sarcasm.
The article itself seemed pretty fair to me.
Dia on 14/5/2013 at 04:57
Yeah, I guess I missed it. The article sounded very pro-T4 to me.
heywood on 14/5/2013 at 05:21
Or at least I interpreted it sarcastically.
The article seems like a straightforward account of what he saw at the demo rather than a regurgitation of EM's press kit. He raises some appropriate concerns throughout and concludes by saying it currently looks like a proof of concept, implying it still needs a lot of work. It's definitely not a pro-EM piece but it's not a hatchet job either. In other words, it's a fair piece.
