Yay, Will we be able to build FM's for this version as well?
I think our NewDark beats anything hands down.... this New version of Thief is certainly not my fave,as its more like TDS.So ..I will play T4 to the end of the game, but after that who knows.

And after that, Jonesy, you can tell me whether it's anti-submersive having reminders of Garrett's masculinity thrown at you rather frequently.

:D...I must have missed that Nickie...does he get his knob out in this one?...perhaps I haven't got to that bit yet :(

:laff: I was referring to 3rd person activities. And no, I don't mean that.

Heh, fair enough. I think that there are bigger flaws in the game than the not-so-free jumping, in fact that's rather low on my list of complaints. The controls are a minor annoyance at times but they get the job done. The sneaking around however is good, whereas the audio design (another core component of Thief in my opinion) is buggy and just broken, which leaves Thief somewhere between the mediocre/good territory for me.
I can mostly agree to this, but I differentiate between design decisions that I don't like (no jumping like the no swimming/no roping in Deadly Shadows), design flaws and programming mistakes/shortcomings (like the audio problems) - all of those have a negative impact on my gaming experience.
Some of those get alleviated with time so I usually wait before I touch those games but sometimes the sum of the problems is too massive and I don't buy at all.
While I'm fortunate enough to be able to buy any game I like I don't have the time to play all of them so I must select carefully - patience and discipline are the necessary tools for this... :sly:

Anyway, I honestly believe that whoever claims to be
insulted by a video game or says that Thief is "the worst game ever" needs to get their head checked. :p
It's a bad, too long and argumentative weak rant, IMHO. I also wasn't sure if it was made intentionally schlocky (= he is a troll) or not.
But - for the benefit of doubt - if he truly means what he says I feel somewhat bad for this fellow.
While he claims that he played the Thief franchise for his "entire life" he should be able to recognize problems with T4 before he got it.
He certainly didn't. He got hyped up and bought it instantly instead.
Also most mainstream action games simply can't qualify as "worst game ever" anymore - they are too polished and rely on popular game mechanics for that.
In fact many games are now so similar that often the scenario is the biggest difference between them. You can't produce a "worst game" that way.
All that being said I think that many Thief fans are way too defensive in their Thief-love and should learn a bit about objectivity.
So, even if I don't like his rant, I still have the opinion that he should be able to articulate it.

NewDark is fine but not exactly cutting edge tech. The Dark Mod, on the other hand, is shaping up nicely and getting better with each release - and so are the fan missions.
Of course we know that T4 won't become a modding platform - these times are over. So how good is the game, really?
Personally, I actually had high hopes for T4 after the very entertaining Deus Ex: Human Revolution. But right now I have more than a slight suspicion that Dishonored, which I also enjoyed tremendously, has more Thief genes than T4, even though it of course isn't a true Thief game and some parts were completely unnecessary.
Here's what I decided:
I'll either wait until I get a budget PS4 version - or for "free" as a PS+ subscriber (like the new Tomb Raider game right now). This way I'll not only save money but very likely get a patched game.

"Yeah but your [DEVS] were so preoccupied with whether or not they could they didn't stop to think if they should."

Looks so much like Thief 3. I still prefer the old style of Thief 2. Only thing missing of course are more cheats. Nothing makes a game more fun then opening up a console to type in godmode, giveall, unlimited ammo and invisible. :D

I liked playing all the other Thief's, but the 4 seems not very stealthy... :(

Thief has always had this. It's called "ghosting". ;)

I preordered this, got the limited edition in a tin with the bonus level...installed it, clicked play and....bugger, my graphics card decided that it was too old and threw its toys out of its pram...result, I bought a new card..a Radeon R9 toxic version...bugger, my computer case was too small to fit the 29cm card in it...result, I bought a new case and...whoo hoo.
I like the game, especially dropping onto enemies from above and duffing them up..the downside, if you are attaced you can do nothing about it but run..no sword.
As for Garrett and the knob issue...nearly I guess especially in the brothel and as for the Mistress of said hovel...she's a he!!!:laff::laff::laff: with Garrett hiding under the bed..LOL.
It wont appeal to everyone but it does have its moments.
