Exactly. You have you to create a reason for people to use Linux or Mac. If they're constantly being shut out, they're simply forced to keep using Windows...it's not completely by choice.

I don't trust free things. There is no one to answer for the massive messup.

The figure I've heard here at work is that the Linux install base worldwide is about 0.8-1.0%. I doubt that includes corporate/enterprise servers and networks, it probably only includes home/small office installations. However, if it's not much more work, then why not?
(
http://marketshare.hitslink.com/operating-system-market-share.aspx?qprid=8) Depends which (
http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php) stats you look at. Going by current (
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_os.asp) browser stats, which I reckon to be not entirely daft as I reckon most browsing is done with desktops and laptops, so it goes some way to exclude servers, then Linux has about 4% of the market. Last time I looked, which was a while ago admittedly, Linux had about 50% of the server market.

I'd be on Ubuntu right now if not for that, actually. It's kind of a vicious circle - not a large enough userbase to develop for it, but that userbase is also small because few develop for linux.
Somebody has to take the first step, but I don't think it's profitable enough for either party to.

I truly hope it is NOT VISTA ONLY. The bulk of the THIEF games don't play well with VISTA. And I'm not about to change the operating system just to play T4.
Although I could add another system to my backups (I have a W98 as well as three XP systems), keeping one XP with THIEF and building a new VISTA system.
Dia on 10/6/2009 at 00:53
Oh God I hadn't thought of that! From what I've read here, Vista isn't Thief-friendly to begin with (usually). Well; my HD is partitioned for ME & XP64, so I s'poze I could always delete the ME OS & load up Vista. Or could I?
New Horizon on 10/6/2009 at 01:54
No, it won't be vista only, it would be Windows 7. Windows 7 is supposed to have an XP emulation mode or something.

Except for the SP3 inclusion it might work. But I've heard that SP3 also screws with THIEF.
I know that it freezes my computer which is why I use selective updates and went back to SP2.
