One liner: guards not alerted by footsteps
Now, obviously this is only where it applies. But, where guards are patrolling, and all of their feet are making noise, how could they possibly know whether it was another patroller's feet or their own that made the noise? I love the creeping, but I think it needs to be reformed to meet with reality at some level.

...it wouldn't hurt...
Not to pick on
you, Cliftor, but most opinions I've seen for another Thief game, with that phrase appended to it, are bogus. Yes it will hurt. Some of us can't stand the idea that she, rather than a new female protagonist, would be in the new game as more than an informant.

So long as its good, I don't care. :cheeky:

I don't think they could write a good justification that wasn't actually a cop-out or cave-in, so I wouldn't know what "good" would mean in light of that. If you mean game-mechanics and aesthetics, that's another topic.:sly:

No matter, I'm easily pleased.

The only person I trust to decide weather or not the experience is good enough for ME, is ME. I may take a passing glance at the reviews, but I never take them seriously, mostly because I have a pretty low opinion of reviewers in general. "Good" and "Bad" are relative terms, and you can't know weather a game is good or bad for you if you don't play it.

Yes. But it depends. I look at all the games that people rave about and I cannot connect and am even disgusted. The things Thief has held for me are mostly absent in other games. I don't need to play a game to know I will or won't like it if I just see a couple of minutes of gameplay by someone who's not employed by the company. My personal enjoyment has nothing at all to do with it being a good or bad game by anybody's standards. Since it will be years before I will play it, if at all, I will have a decent idea before I do. It was a couple of years after TDS came out that I finally played it, and the overall fan impression was correct in my view. I discovered my personal disappointment with it, and personal pleasant surprises, but most of my ill feelings were set in stone before I stood outside Rutherford Castle for the first time--and it wasn't because of the blue footprints and arrows, though that didn't help. I was already turned off and worried from the screenshots and menus, and seeing it live was worse. It won't take much for me to know if it's for me or not--and like I said, that has zero to do with how awesome it may be.

There's no reason I can't just borrow a friend's copy.
(airy, creepily happy voice): After all, that's what friends are for, isn't it?

The thought that Thief 4 can't be good if Garrett is not the main character is insulting and idiotic. I will argue on the contrary that Thief 4 can't be good if EM maintain Garrett as the player in a shallow way to please the fan crowd.
Let the devs breathe. If having Garrett as a main character makes sense within the story to be told, then of course they will do it. But I certainly don't want the writers or designers to feel arbitrarily constrained by a decision from the project lead to pander to some of the fans.
The quality of Thief 4 will depend on one thing : their ability to "get" Thief and what makes it so compulsive and enjoyable to us. Thief 2X and a number of FMs proved that being Garrett is not at the core of Thief.
On a personal side, I would enjoy playing Garrett once again of course thanks to his personality but frankly, the story behind him seems rather done.
