If, upon release, Thief 4 proved to be inferior the The Dark Mod, EM would be red-faced with shame. A group of volunteers beating out a professional company? That would definitely make people wonder who messed up their game. And it would probably make some bigwigs think about offering the Dark Mod team some employment.

We already saw fan missions for Thief 2 that are equal in quality to Thief 3. For example, Rocksbourg series, CoSaS, several areas in Hammerite Imperium - Mission One.
I won't be surprised to see The Dark Mod FMs better than Thief 4 OMs.

Anyway - After seeing a gameplay video of The Dark Mod I've very much warmed up to it. I hope that the blackjacking and overall feel isnt anywhere near as broken as TDS was - after recently replaying that game I can't believe how badly they screwed up the very basic mechanics of thief gameplay. If blackjacking is solid and satisfying and the feel is there (which it seems to be) I'll definitely be supporting The Dark Mod.
EM has alot of ground to make up as far as making a good Thief game but I expect that regardless of the final product it will at least be polished and professional looking - well, I'm hoping anyway. In all honesty I very much hope that both are solid releases and both have great success - I'd enjoy adopting two more 'games' into my regular thief playing rotation!

Sneaky, glad you warmed up to it, give it a chance. These guys are so dedicated to the dark mod, they will make us proud. To me it feels like a Thief game, it does. And those textures!! Its awesome.

I think (hope) that both will be quality releases. I believe EM gets why DS was a failure and will act accordingly; they could still easily mess it up but I personally think we shouldn't start chucking stones until they've given us a reason to.
@Ixitixl- Dude ignore him, he's just working to keep his title of King of Gloom and Doom. You didn't do anything wrong and if you hadn't called him on it I would have. Hold your ground brother! :thumb:

Seconding what jay pettitt said Ixitixl, post moar. You obviously have more balanced emotions than uber grump van Boring (oh yeah, I did), and I thought that it was a zing, and a subtle one at that. van Boring probably didn't get it.
Back OT: I think EM's vision of Thief will be.... different.
TDM is fairly traditional, just cool.

Because The Dark Mod is traditional, it has chance to please the good ol' taffers who don't like to see innovations :)
