Saw this here... (

Which links to here... (

Which has the following quote...
Quote:
"The people in Tokyo are just so glad to work on it," said D'Astous. "This is the first project for them that's a non-Final Fantasy title--they even want to work on Thief 4 too."
This is the cutscenes they're talking about, not the game itself. While there's few people on the planet who I'd trust to do 2D animation other than the Japanese, this did send a chill up my spine.

Cool, looking forward to the awesome haircuts!
I wonder if that includes briefing videos as well, if there will be any that is...

Who told you they will be 2D? I don't remember cutscenes in any Final Fantasy being 2D.

Everything over at Eidos is "exciting" nowadays. :erg: Well, let's see what they're up to.

Also I don't have an Adams Apple...or do I? :sly:

It's never been stated that the videos will be 2D animation. The idea is just frustrating that T4's cinematics could be created in a country known for its brilliant traditional animation, and yet it's in the hands of a studio known for neither traditional animation, nor brilliance.

When you'll see Thiaf riding down the rope from the airship as it comes burning down holding 36-carat diamond in one hand and shooting back at baddies with the automatic crossbow in the other, your eyes are going to orgasm.

I vote for 2D/3D cel animation. Chibi Garrett sounds like the sort of breakout mainstream reimagining this series sorely needs to make its presence felt within the gaming public.

My sweet ass.
Ok, here is what we already know about the game.
1. It was announced with an awkward Thi4f logo, and the team behind the game was proud of it.
2. Thief 4 cutscenes will be produced by the Japanese people who worked only on Final Fantasy games.
I think I'm properly excited now. And I'm mostly proud of the people who make crucial design and production decisions about the game.

The "brilliant traditional animation" in Japan is 98% really, really bad. Ducktales and Spongebob beat the majority of animu in animation. How probable is it that this is one of the good animation studios?
That 98% of the industry there uses techniques that are not meant for carefully scripted and directed pieces of artwork like the silhouette pieces and moving paintings in Thief. Those techniques used in most animu are meant for mass-production of cheap animations that take no effort. The story is always the main point, the visual aspect is left second.
I know that Square has made Advent Children, but is it really necessary to give the job of making silhouette films and moving paintings to a company that uses 3dCG? And BTW, the director has to be from EIDOS. Don't let Square do any of that.
