Thief 4's cutscenes... Square Enix? - by Digital Nightfall

In the example linked, I saw no improvement over cutscenes from ten years ago other than the tech. Also, being really good at making something doesn't qualify for making a specific class of that general product. If it's not outside the box of what they've always done, then "good" will not mean "correct." I'm hoping they won't bring the same old thing to the Thief genre, but will bring the Thief genre into their work. Picking from among: Darkness, low ambient light, light used only to set off shadows and guide the eye gently, more attention to the setting than the detail on the character models which can be impressionistic, subtlety without stiffness, rich color but deep color, and very importantly, don't glide the camera around but keep it still 99% of the time and don't worry about animating faces and lighting them to show off!:thumb:

Well I'm pretty sure Square is smart enough to make the cutscenes consistent with the art styles and atmospheres of both Thief 4 and Deus Ex 3. It would be strange to play the game, and then see cutscenes in which the people look totally different. Actually, it wouldn't just be strange, it'd be a damn disaster...a disaster which again, I *hope* Square is smart enough to avoid. :erg:
Then again, I also hoped for much smaller things before, but to no avail...

Maybe it's because they're really good at making pre-rendered cutscenes?
Thief4 doesn't need pre-rendered cutscenes, at least not 3d. The silhouette vids combined with the "moving paintings" in the rest of the series are enough. And they're easier to do.

Well, that puts my mind at ease a bit. It's good to know they are so far only involved in the upcoming trailer for DX3.
But, honestly, it's Deus Ex 3's use of Squeenix animators for cinematics that has me more worried than Thief, really. With Thief, there's a definite standard that the cutscenes would have to live up to. With Deus Ex 3... the nano-tech augmentations and such make it much more ripe for mid-air anime battles and bullet-time nonsense. I'm absolutely terrified that Deus Ex 3 willl have slow-mo motorcycle battles and characters running up buildings and the like.

then be prepared. what do you think is the "occasional switch to 3rd person" for ? cinematic anime battles in mid-air, hopefully against 12year old lolita robots in pink panties :joke:

You know i once thought about how fucking much it would suck if someone like square enix got control over the Thief franchise.
The fact that its happening right now IN REAL LIFE blows my mind. Its like a cruel joke. :( Makes me wanna choke a bitch. :nono:

Doing the cutscenes != control over the franchise.

If it's anything like that, I will carpetbomb Eidos HQ. Keep silly stuff out of Thief, please.
