At this point, the only sounds I'm looking forward to hearing are the hand-crafted all original sounds by Paul Weir. I'm still waiting to hear his "scores", though he mostly arranged the sounds to be played, and chose the key, not any melody unless there's a set-piece like a victrola or Horn of Quintus signature object.
And again, referring back to how things might be different if Stephen hadn't voiced Garrett or anybody else: Of all the games I've played with human voice actors, none have been as much fun or as quotable as the work of Stephen Russell among the men. I used to quote lines form other games, but it wasn't because I liked the voice actor, but the one line, or the way a particular actor read the part, and I never went looking in the credits to find out who did those voices. Only over a decade later did I go back and check. Stephen is cemented as Garrett and Benny, and TDS sorely missed Laura Baldwin's characterizations and wit, even with all the other ex-LGS working on it. Her work has never been matched. The writing that's come out of EM for T4 so far has been equal to or worse than almost the cringe-worthiest lines of the trilogy.

A more "athletic" (read: devoid of personality) voice. When I think of that, I can't help but think of Sam Worthington or some shit. And with the accent it reminds me of him more and more. Perhaps the most wooden actor to gain popularity in recent years, he's like an Aussie Paul Walker. (F*** you, Avatar!)
I still need to see more to make a fair judgement, but it has not been good so far.
If this sort of actor is their new vision of Garrett, then their overall vision of the game is highly suspect.
It's a question of taste.
Hmm, looks like this may be our guy. Sounds about right.

Also, if anyone thinks being okay with the voice has weight, it doesn't. If you simply don't mind, then it shouldn't bother you that everyone else isn't resting right in the middle of opinion. If you aren't thinking it's better than okay, and you aren't inflating the importance, assuring yourself, or just trying to balance negativity with puffed-up positivity, then that's accepting what no one should have to, settling for mediocrity, serving the fast food syndrome prevalent in gaming, where timelessness is never accepted in this form of entertainment media.
Oh, and they made a new Garrett face and Stephen's voice didn't fit it, and that's the other reason they ditched Russell. Got it backwards fellas! You JJB'd Garrett's face, WTF?

Does anybody know if Michael Ironside is still voicing Sam Fisher in Splinter Cell?
Just a thought: during character's "re-development" they clearly had to set his target audience and a younger Garrett might have been deemed more "accessible" for the younger audience.
And, I'm really sorry to say, we are NOT the target audience :( We are just to few.
By the Builder, I'd really like to be wrong on this one...

The problem is that there is a consistent negative reaction to absolutely bloody everything. If I was in a position to give a damn about fan polls I would have already started tuning them out when revelations like A GAME COMING OUT ON THE XBOX WILL HAVE ACHIEVEMENTS OH MY GOD (something that is in the bloody ToS for getting a game onto the microsoft platform) cause a shitstorm. Or people actually getting angry about the type of bow in the game (FFSsssssssssssssssssssss). So, now, any legitimate points anyone might have are now tarred with the same brush of hysterial irrelevance (stretching the allegory a bit soz).

Nope.
But the Splinter Cell voice actor change is totally different. While Ubisoft Montréal tried to pass off Sam Fisher's voice change as simply a matter of 'going younger', in truth, Michael Ironside has given interviews claiming he was 'sick of the character' as early as Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. He's pretty much been collecting a paycheck and phoning it in, ever since.
Stephen Russell, on the other hand, was actually passed over for this part. In essence, 'forced out', despite his apparent willingness to reprise the role.
In favor of a guy who does what sounds like a thoroughly stilted impersonation of Stephen Russell, with a vague British accent.
European accents being something both Looking Glass and Ion Storm consciously avoided for
legitimate reasons!

Another stretch. But I guess if they're capturing face and voice in live mo-cap sessions then it'd probably be wise not to hold out for traditional Thiefy stylised cut-scenes. Photorealism all the way.

What?!?
Also, that's American Oirish, not British.
