Photorealism all the way.
This is why indie games are probably going to be pretty much my only fare within the next decade - I really do expect that all AAA games that look good are going to start sucking it on the gameplay front because it makes them more accessible - they'll all be the same of 5 games and the only difference is the story and the characters.
Imagine the roguelike we could create with 200 million dollars? Imagine the minecraft we could create if we had STARTED with 200 million dollars and then continued development? Imagine any unique game of any depth, classic appeal, or quality, and then imagine what we could do to it if we didn't have to make it photorealistic anymore? You'd have games that, if people liked them, they'd never have to stop playing them.

Yeah, but you would need to make that 200 million dollars back. That's like 3 million copies. And if you want to make a profit on that (which anyone dropping that much money will) that's even more copies. You need mass appeal. Hence things change, edges get filed off, etc. You are entirely correct, of course - indie games with smaller budgets and less worry about shifting huge numbers are where the really interesting stuff takes place. It's like movies. Unless you are an eccentric billionaire who doesn't care about losing millions of dollars, high-budget entertainment HAS to appeal to a broader demographic. Bigger budget, blander product, lowest common denominator, etc.
I'm kind of talking myself out of Thief here. I guess realistically I'm not expecting it to be super-brilliant. But it's really depressing watching lots of people here basically bioshock themselves so much they're not going to be able to enjoy it at all because they already have a diamond-hard list of (often really, really trivial) reasons it sucks before they've even played it. Heads up, yes, it will definitely suck if you are already looking to pick it apart.
Repeating myself.

Oh, and they made a new Garrett face and Stephen's voice didn't fit it ... WTF?
It seems EM took Garrett's physical appearance to the opposite extreme of his physical appearance in TDS. And you can keep the new eye. Total and utter bullcrap. Nothing about Garrett's appearance/mechanical eye in TMA was broken but EM 'fixed it' anyhow. May they all choke on their own fecal matter.
And I agree that as Stephen Russell is a professional actor, he wouldn't have had any trouble dubbing his voice to Garrett's physical actions in the game. That's what actors do. I take umbrage at the fact that EM is treating us as though we have the collective mentality of gnats. May EM rot in the deepest bowels of hell.
And wtf is up with Garrett's new nose?!
Nevermind. I find this whole thing so depressing that I'm going to go clean my bathroom. Cleaning bathrooms has always been depressing for me, but after all this T4 'news' I'm hoping maybe it'll actually cheer me up.

Are you taffin me? :)
Seriously though, I can get myself to be rational on this, then I will get to the same conclusions. But I cannot, not with Thief at least. I will be happier if I ignore the existance of the new one if they don't even try to be faithful on some points.
I can accept changes, DXHR has a lot of them, and I know they are necessary. But original Thief with a lot of GOOD changes is a good thing, a new Thief with everything remade anew without understanding the original is something very few little people here can abide. No matter the masses.

Perfectly stated.

Looks like bans are being handed out over at the Eidos Forums. That will make it look like we've all given up I guess. :erg: Well, not a chance.

No, what I said was that he was a professional and could make his
vocal performance match the physical performance.
Ah, I see, thanks for clearing it up!
What I do hope, though, is that they manage to get a decent German localisation. The fact that they did it for DXHR makes it probable at least.

"Let's get crazy!" Note, taffheads, how we have to GET crazy. Imagine, nutjob retards GETTING crazy!:eek:
Just send a simple "thiefy" postcard ("Could you, please, bring Mr. Russell back?") to the same address in Eidos Montreal offices.
Hundreds of postcards would look nice pinned to their board. ;)
