The whole thing makes no sense from an artistic standpoint or a marketing standpoint.
Especially since a great deal of these new fans will obviously find the enormous legacy of LGS *and* Stephen Russell. Prompting them to realize, why in the hell didnt they get the *alive and well* Russell to do this, especially since the original fans knew and tried to tell them! After thinking twice about the Burricks head screenshot, youre right, something just isnt adding up here. Hopefully a better explanation will be released by EM... and soon! Look, if SR simply turned it down because he was disappointed with Deadly, dont be embarassed, its ok!

To be fair, I don't think any of us are attached to Garrett's appearance. It's been different in every game, on every gamebox, and even between cutscenes in TDS ffs. You can't hardly blame them - no one really knows what Garrett looks like. Still, doesn't help to dissuade fans from the worry that the game will be an AC clone...

It would be awesome if they actually tied the stories in together. Perhaps Garrett is one of Desmond Miles' interdimensional ancestors.
LMAO!

Holy crap that's blatant.
Only real differences I see are skin tone, the mouth furrows, and the thickness of the eyebrows (ignoring the scar change).... otherwise they're pretty much exactly the same
Probably what the VA (/ stunt guy?) actually looks like. Easier for mo-cap, innit - don't have to scale everything.

That won't happen until we see some gameplay footage.

They are based on a real guy, Francisco Randez, french-canadian (notice a pattern?) model. He's not the VA for either, though.

Not to add to the hysteria, but I'm really bothered that they don't see the value of incorporating something that
has no bearing on gameplay or graphic presentation for the sake of nostalgia. If that's their philosophy, then they bloody well need to get rid of the Burrick head in that tavern screenshot. I call bullshit. Thief is
primarily about embodying the character of Garrett, and vets strongly associate him with SR's voice. Newbies won't know the difference, so how in the world would there be an (alleged) disconnect? Have you ever played a new game and thought, "Hmmm...that voice doesn't fit the character?" No - you accept the voice as being part of a character that you're getting to know. The whole thing makes no sense from an artistic standpoint or a marketing standpoint.
I think you're mixing up nostalgia here. They're not talking about the entire world of Thief and everything in it being nixed due to nostalgia because they want to distance themselves from the previous games. The new one could still have Burricks, Keepers, and all that in there because they're not trying to rewrite the entire Thief world from the ground up.
I believe what they're saying, I need to read the interview bit again, is that due to nostalgia, the old crowd might be far too willing to dismiss the new guy because they're so attached to Stephen Russell.

A hokey game, that's for sure.

Everything is terrible.
