It would be awesome if they actually tied the stories in together. Perhaps Garrett is one of Desmond Miles' interdimensional ancestors.
Haha nice one, I actually LOL'd at this. :D

All the drama with replacing SR with an AC guy makes sense now, safe to say there's a little bit of the "old boy's club" stuff going on. Makes you wonder if they ever really brought Russell in for a try out. Thing is, the new actor is almost 50, he can't be that much different in age from SR, so the "too old" argument kind of goes out the window. It doesn't really matter now, they've made their choice and I'm sure they'll stick with it. Just seems like they missed out on a golden opportunity to not only win the fans over, but to get an awesome voice actor who could also give them Benny, excellent Hammerites, and probably just about any other type of character they wanted. :p

They're just too stupid to realize that. Not their fault, I think the average IQ in game development companies has drastically lowered since 2000.

Ask a guy who grew up on ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64, and he'll probably tell you game developers have become stupider since 1990.
"Games used to be about the gameplay, man. You play Ant Attack? It was a bunch of greyscale blocks. Now you've got all these games that are about the graphics, man. The Super Nintendo ruined this for us. And these FMV games? Yeah! They're not really games at all! They're just press a button and doop doop doop! Yet they're so popular, I bet all the idiotic publishers out there will be making nothing but crappy FMV games by 2010. It just ain't the same anymore, man. Ain't the same at all".

I am torn not hearing Stephen Russell's voice come out of Garrett's mouth. I am saddened by it.
But my joy of having a new Thief game outweighs my sadness, I think. I was pretty sure I wasn't going to see another Thief game after 2004 (despite confirmations of one being worked on).
I think we should just be happy that a niche game franchise is still being released at all (especially in the light of hearing LucasArts being shut down without notice). If seeing more Thief games in the future means different voice actors, then I will accept that.
I'll just be happy to hear Mr. Russell's voice littered throughout Skyrim, including as the guildmaster of the Thieve's Guild.

Nah, I think 2000 was a pretty fair go. ;)

Double nah. Games are just as good now as they've always been. Maybe better in some ways. The reason we're all so picky now is because...
A. Everything does seem like it was better when you were younger. It's true.
B. Being older means you're more likely to notice, and less likely to tolerate bad games. Want an example? I used to have Heroes of the Lance for my old Atari ST.
...and I loved that freaking game.
Despite the fact that for all intents and purposes, it was absolutely horrible. You could even hit a dwarf with your sword if he was standing a foot away from your character. Just swing swing swing whiff whiff whiff. Eventually you'd die from the thing kicking you in the shins over and over again. But comeon. I was a bunch of dudes and chicks exploring...like...THE RUINS OF A LOST FREAKING CITY! HOW COOL IS THAT? IT IS RAD IS WHAT IT IS!
Contrast to today, when I'll consider a game an unplayable mess if the mouse moves my character slower than I think it should.
C. We're more saturated with games now. Remember back when? Yeah. If you got 4 games a year, you were one of those spoiled rich kids. These days? You can hop on Steam and pick up 10 really good games for under 50 bucks. You get that much choice, you end up being that much pickier.
D. We're all crotchety old bastards. We'll bitch about anything, simply because it takes our minds off the pain of our swollen prostates.
I'd say more, but I gotta take a piss. Excuse me.
