Introducing our new EM Community video series, where we take you behind the scenes for a look at our studio and the creative processes of our teams as they somewhat respectfully crap on the games you love.
That's the first video from EM I couldn't watch all the way through. First the Game Informer TDP N00bPlay, now this. I like how they create a new Garrett, are surprised Russell doesn't fit their made-up face (Like it can't be changed at all, and they have deep nostalgic attachment to it, ironically invested in a face for a game that had no particular face before), and so they get a guy half of them have worked with before, in an Assassin's Creed title, that they made Thiaf too much like for the first couple of years (the pattern is being emphasized), and when they put their own made-up AC-rooted face with the actor from a previous AC title, they snap their fingers and behold it fits! They subliminally made Garrett with Romano in mind and never admitted it to themselves--this kind of thing happens regularly in creative minds. They toyed with a new character, but threw that idea out when they should've gone with it all the way, especially after chucking out the infrastructure of The City's history and elemental and technomagic upheavals. Start fresh if you aren't changing the title. This is mere bastardization.

This is about the moment when I realized it's all kinda pointless. It seems everyone's made up their minds already, and there's really no reason to discuss anything, because there's nothing to discuss.

Also, I already know from years of public admissions and snotty PMs that some taffheads have got it in their silly heads that in order to not let people like myself have any satisfaction: "I'm gonna show you!" And they will go out and buy as many copies as they can and laugh like asses. Oh yeah, you showed me exactly why I don't trust them or respect you. Thanks for proving the points. Again.
Builder forgive them, for they know not what they do.
"But it's a good game (dot dot dot) for what it is." Good job, consumerist sheep. Good job.
Those who learn from history will still be failed by the larger numbers of those who won't!

And some players never read the readables, or watch the cutscenes, or really look at the goals before the mission starts. Not our fault you don't care to pay attention. What he did with the writing was give it subtext and a sense of history. You can hear him smiling in his sarcasm, cynicism. Only when you generalize the character and ignore the stakes and life-story and his goals can you think of him in cookie-cutter terms. Blowing off all the details will certainly give you a shallow experience. Not our fault.
I'm not blaming anything on the community, so I don't know why you keep chanting "not our fault"
I payed attention, watched the cutscenes, read the readables, and what I saw was Garrett as exactly I described him. Can you tell me what it is I missed, or is the study of Garrett some esoteric field which the enlightened cannot explain to a member of the masses such as myself?
Yeah, Garrett's cynical, sarcastic, detached, cunning, pragmatic etc etc etc, and I'm sure there's all sorts of history to him that could further reveal his many shades of midnight black. That doesn't change the fact that all this characterization fits snugly into the anti-hero mold. Oh yeah, I missed something: He's also has hidden feelings for Victoria and a soft spot for poor old Lotus, so he's the stereotypical Anti-Hero with a hidden heart of gold! Wow, so deep! Not my fault you've deluded yourself into seeing depth that doesn't exist.

EidosMontreal is already blocked from commenting on their own video due to negative response.
PRICELESS.

OMG! They've (EM has) started deleting responses to their 'EM Community Video 1: Meet Romano!' video. I posted three responses (yes, I was gripped by hysteria at the time) and they've deleted two of them and a few more from other people as well. So far, the 'new voice of Garrett' isn't being very well received; nor is EM's sad-ass excuse as to why they didn't use Stephen Russell. And this new guy seems waaayyy to cocky for his own good.
Like I said before: epic fail, EM.
