Yep. I just wish he'd let another fan read it over before publishing it first. Whoopsie-taffies. :p

EM's logic for not using Stephen Russell is that the voice acting needs to be done with the motion capturing. Does that mean that when the foreign languages are recorded, those voice actors will also have to do motion capture work?

That's horse$hit. We all wanted a new Thief game. We all wanted it to be fantastic and worthy of the name. Absolutely nobody here wanted to have anything to bitch about. So the fact that people are voicing their frustration over unnecessary changes is something worth taking very seriously and not dismissing as mindless whining over nothing. EM have made the less-than-uncommon mistake of forgetting that they're game designers and not businessmen. They've made choices, and justifications for those choices, while completely forgetting the fundamental principle of sales, which is "if you want to sell something, give the customer what they want, especially if you've had years of them asking for it in excruciating detail."
Simply put, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and they talked themselves into trying to fix it anyway (not just the voice; the daylight and fog, the obligatory mask that makes Garrett look like he was yanked out of Assassin's Creed, etc). The consequences of that choice are to be expected. We've spent the last decade begging them for a cheeseburger and they finally said, "Sure! Here's a slice of pizza! It's what you wanted, right? I mean, it's good, right? ...Why are you staring at me that way?" Not exactly rocket science.
Well said, Kurgan.
'K, maybe I did get a tad carried away and perhaps a touch too vehement (& have already apologized til I'm blue in the face so no more PMs of admonishment, please), but seeing the screenshot of the new, improved Garrett just made me see red. Hearing the new, improved voice of Garrett, to me, was like a slap in the face, especially after EM had all but promised us that SR would return. Reading about all the other changes that EM made that in my opinion were NOT integral to the world/game of Thief just added to my anger and feelings of betrayal by EM. Just because some Taffers are disappointed and feel that T4 no longer holds any interest for them doesn't make them pessimists or mean that they have closed minds. Haven't you ever watched a preview of an upcoming movie and said to yourself, 'No thanks; I think I'll pass. Just not my cup of tea'? Is that being pessimistic or overly negative? No. It just means that the preview you just watched doesn't appeal to you and you have no wish to waste your money on something that you have no desire to see.
No witch-hunts here. Just Taffers expressing their opinions; so if some people have already decided they have no desire to spend money on what they believe is a travesty of a Thief game, then so what?! I just saw a preview for a movie that I have absolutely no desire to see, but by the standards of those who are chastising others to remain open-minded, does that mean I have to go see that movie when I feel I already have enough facts to
know I won't like it? If you're
really going to be open minded here, then accept the fact that not everyone wants to spend money on T4 if everything they've seen/heard/read about it has already convinced them that it would be a waste of their time because they feel it will be a major disappointment for them. Previews are not just marketing tools; they give the viewer the opportunity to make the decision for themselves as to whether or not they're willing to spend money on the movie or game.
I
might be willing to go as far as to play the demo of T4 - out of curiosity. But
not willing to shell out $60 just because it's being touted as a new Thief game when I already have serious misgivings due to all I've seen, heard, and read about the game. Doesn't mean I'm being pessimistic, just means that I know what I like. Or rather that I know what I don't like.

I just realised why there are no supernatural enemies or burricks in the game, Eidos Montreal had trouble finding real-live(undead?) zombies and dwarf dinosaurs to do mocap and voice acting.

I was wondering along the same lines. If it's not all subtitles, and they do get other actors' doing voice-overs, it'll really call their bluff.

Impossible. Black Ops (yes, COD... blahblah) was localized to German. Full Motion Capture was used pretty much in every scene of its "cinematic" campaign... localised version was using the same facial animations and expression, only the voices were changed.
So they either do the same or they translate subtitles only. Nobody is going to do full motion capture all over again, just for translation - that would lead to making the most overcomplicated and expensive translation, ever!
It would also mean, that translation teams would have to get almost a full game, with all of the tools... this way, I'm pretty sure, a game would just leak in Russia or somewhere like this, months before full translation would be ready.

That's pretty much where I am with this game, too. I was planning to buy it, and now I'm not planning to buy it. It's possible that I will end up purchasing it, but I will have to be won over again(which may not be an easy thing to do since much of what I like about Thief appears to have been axed.)

Can't wait to see/hear more clips featuring Romano.
I don't think I'm exaggerating here when I say you're the only one who feels that way.

You are.
I'd like to see an example cutscene as well, to see what kind of technology they were talking about and whether it was worth it. Probably a few other people like Renz would like to see it as well, but they went back to the GenGaming, for there's no ground for any discussion here. I'll be doing the same thing.

Yup, waiting to see much more of everything. :thumb:
