I'm half-expecting dialogue trees.
If the game pushes the player to listen to conversations and they drag on and on it won't be an improvement, and if they turn convos into 3rd-Person moments, GAH!

And that is
exactly why we
aren't happy! We don't see/hear
Garrett in Thief[4], we see/hear an imposter! Now you, too, are so close to understanding where we are coming from.
A bit closer, but still quite far away. The voice is different, and that's of course a pretty major change, but I can live with that, especially since Romano Orzari seems to be a very good replacement. I've never been into the lore as much as you have (not even close), so I suppose that there can be something in there that you may not be so happy about, but to me this new Garrett still seems quite a lot like his older counterpart. Not identical obviously, but close enough to still be Garrett. :p

One more time: It's not one thing. Romano is not the major problem. It's the writing, the sound director, all the lame excuses for the changes, and much more. The list is big, not one or two or three things, and it's been years of this crap. It was made personal for a few of us, through direct contact with EM employees, and then through individuals under EM's protection who abuse their powers and sow misinformation and discord with a smile. The list of F***-Ups is ever-growing. I so dearly want Thief to turn out okay in the end, not for the masses, but for the people who made it possible for a game developer to revisit the brand to begin with. Some things have been changed for the better since we first heard about them, and that's great, and they've made up for them with a bunch of new crap.

You're criticizing the writing already? We haven't even seen any evidence of the writing past the trailer!
And oh god, the masses again. Not for the masses? NOT FOR THE MASSES! Didn't Thief 1 & 2 sell a little over a million copies? I know it sold enough to make a tidy profit for LGS.

bigOh cool, can you send me the manuscript of Thief 4 and the soundtrack too, please?
Unless you're a spy or you've got some special contact at EM selling you information, I doubt that you (or anyone else in here) know that much about these things yet.

I would just like to point out that the magic of Thief was that all the stars aligned for them. The Dark Project was the masterful and inevitable amalgamation of the many classic gaming elements that inspired it and that it drew from. The writers of the original Dark Project dialogue were fueled, and crafted those memorable and charming words that Russell voiced so precisely. Right place, right time. Could it happen again with these new writers/voice actors? Are all the stars aligning for this new team?

Why don't
you even know half as much as most of the people here? It's
right there in the articles and media releases! They are telling the consumers and showing things off and we are simply looking and commenting how we feel! :laff::laff:
I
was in contact with the first Community Manager. He contacted
me! Before he was silenced and left the job four months later, I and others here (who were in touch with him about getting the source codes released), watched him go from very friendly and mostly BS-free for a Marketing guy, to cold, cautious, unhappy, and not liking something he wouldn't talk about. A lot of it happened in PMs, but there's a bit of it on the forums, and his silence months before departure. He was the biggest Thief fan at EM that we knew of and could trust most, and had worked at an Electronics Boutique (same chain as Mike Chrzanowski, who added lots of personal history in his mission,
Shipping... and Receiving about it!) and bought the first Thief games from the store he worked in when they were originally released! He thought I was a Thief fan worth contacting here. I never found out why, because he wasn't allowed to talk about T4 anymore with us, and then he left. Want links? Or is that not really the point you want to make?
Most of EMs employees are former Ubisoft employees. The General Manager started EM because he wanted to do things better than what he and the devs experienced at Ubisoft. There are connections after connections to AC development in T4, openly admitted by them, in their own voices, in videos! All I'd doing is listening and not liking what I hear along those particular lines. Parkour? A character that looks like an assassin? Cool takedown moves to watch instead of playing? Guided automated movement over beams? The actor from an Assassin's Creed miniseries? No Russell because his voice doesn't match their new face and he can't do the mocap for their fancy moves? Do you want more? I'm only repeating myself, you may not know.

What we've seen in the articles so far hasn't really revealed much about the story or the writings or the music or the sounds of Thief 4. At least not so much that you could already say that they're definitely all going to suck. This first community manager dude may have told you all sorts of things, but I assume that that was a long time ago, so many things have most likely changed after that. Aren't you just guessing again and you don't actually know anything
for certain? What parts of the story and the writing you don't like, and what is it that's wrong with the music and the sounds of Thief 4?

Just because some of them have worked on AC previously doesn't mean that they're going to bring every single feature from AC into Thief...
If a guy who has previously worked in a fast-food restaurant becomes a surgeon, do you really think that he'll do everything in the same exact way as in his earlier job and makes burgers out of his patients?
jtr7 on 6/4/2013 at 03:59
Did you just say "every single feature"? Really? What's that about? How about no AC feature, not one or two. Of course they won't bring in every single feature. WTF?
Please tell me you are not reading the articles or watching the videos to avoid spoilers or something.
Yes, dammit, AC is a different game, and it doesn't belong in Thief, but you had to bring up maybe some things could be borrowed and don't even have a decent follow-up, but they are bringing AC into it. In fact, when Stephane Roy came aboard, they began to take the AC out, but they've still left a lot of influence in, and we're finding out more all the time. Take their word for it. I'm just reacting to that, and everyone who won't do their homework.

Didst thou.. really just make a comparison between working for one modern day game company vs another related modern day game company, and working at a fast food restaurant vs being a surgeon?
Seriously?!
