This is something that I have to disagree with. Climbing up and down ropes, mantling high walls at ease, and jumping long distances from one rooftop to another isn't acrobatics? Garrett has always been agile and acrobatic, and if he simply looks cool while doing some of these moves this time, I don't find that to be a bad thing at all.
Of course, if "acrobatics" in this case means Prince of Persia style wall-running or other over-the-top moves, then yes, I totally agree - I don't want to see that sort of stuff in Thief either. In bold is what we meant...so yes, no AC parkour moves.

I agree about the takedowns, but if they're really used sparsely as the devs have claimed, it might not be that bad. I too thought of AC when I heard about the takedowns, but takedowns exist in a lot of games so it's not exactly exclusive to AC either. And if the fighting will happen from first person most of the time (?), it won't be the same anyway, because AC is played in third person all the time.
Nothing personal, Tomi...But I'm getting tired of everyone apologizing for 3rd-person, and negotiating "How much 3rd-person is okay?"...in order to accept NuThief...I haven't heard anyone say "Hooray!...There's going to be forced 3rd-person takedowns in a THIEF game"...as that would be completely bananas.
...Just take the inappropriate, unwanted, unloved takedowns out of there.

(Ahem) SAY, how many people like Romano's voice for not having Stephen's Garrett's "American" accent? That was always a sticky issue with some International taffers. Do ya like the French-Canadian twist better, or is it still too North American for ya?

Hey, I do agree with you here! :p
But even though I'm not fond of the third person stuff, I don't think that it'll
break the game either... or that's what I'm hoping anyway! I believe that Thief 4 can still be good even with the takedowns and stuff if they get the other things right, but I would obviously much rather play the game without them, just like you. Perhaps the old school mode allows us to do that?

Uh... I don't know about this. :o I thought that Romano's voice
sounds good at least, but I've never really thought about what kind of an accent Garrett should have. I don't find it that distinctive. But then again I'm not so good at recognising different accents, it's probably much easier for you since you are (I assume?) a native speaker.
This goes a bit off-topic I guess, but in fact I've always kind of associated Thief (well, TDP at least) with medieval Europe, and I really never thought about this before, but even the character names in my FMs were very European (mostly French/German/Italian)!

It's the Stockholm syndrome. "3rd person isn't great, but they only have a
minimal amount. See how nice they are to us! They're doing their best to please us!" :cheeky:

In the past I thought about what it would be like if Garrett's voice had a richer English accent... just to lift it to that
Richard Burtonesque/Bard kind of status.
Yeah, I've always associated Thief with Europe... and, for me personally, wild Wales where I live. We are blessed with historical castles and medieval architecture. I love how the game and my place of residence fit together in my mind :)

No, the bottom line is that there
will be 3rd person in one way or another (perhaps it can be turned off, but perhaps not), and there's nothing we can do about it. Like Vae said earlier, I can't remember anyone here saying that they're loving this new 3rd person thingy. But some of us are still able to enjoy the game despite of it (and apparently that makes us brainless consumers, corporate whores, apologists, etc.) whereas some others clearly aren't. Fair enough, each to their own, but there's no need for this silly name-calling or belittling.

Huh, you're Welsh ? :) I had no idea.

Depends what you define as Welsh? Personally, I don't describe myself as Welsh... but I do love Wales.
I was born here, but my parents are English / Irish. I don't speak Welsh, I speak English. I live in an area known as "Little England Beyond Wales".

The crap is flying all over the place, in all directions. It's best to duck it seems. I hope you didn't take my post to be an attack. I tried finding some smiley to convey the big tongue in cheek involved. I try to stay away from those type of negative spiral discussions, and if anything direct any unpleasantries towards EM ;)
jtr7 on 6/4/2013 at 13:33
Tomi, have you even bothered to notice no one, not one person, is saying it will be a bad game?
I have no problem with simple satisfaction with what we've been shown so far. I have problems with people being dissatisfied but acting like they owe EM something, praising what we've seen so far to the point they are making stuff up to support their views and hypocritically bagging on people for the same thing only in opposition, and people who are denying the plain existence of things stated outright to us as consumers in order to fake sincere optimism. The reasons for buying the game have been bizarre and dishonest, and I say again, I have no problem with simple satisfaction with what we've been shown so far. If you have to lie to yourself, don't expect anyone to go along with it and support that.
ANYWAY, I ran the trailer through a pitch-shifter, and dropping the audio one semitone is dramatically different, interesting actually. No closer to a Stephen Russell tone, but definitely richer and losing the higher tones that stand out. One semitone. Two semitones causes an ethnic change without Darth Vadering it.
