If a Thief 4 was in the works, no one should be that excited, either they hated Thief 3 or they realise the games we have now complete everything which the series set out to do. We have enough fan missions and other mods to keep us happy, and Thievery of course which is so much fun to play that's what you guys should be doing right now.

Ok whats everyones problem with discusing the future of the thief series,
Please do search on 'Thief 4' and maybe then you'll understand. ;)
While most of us would be ecstatic should there ever be an announcement that there really is a T4 in the works, it's not very likely to happen (ok, at this point it's more than improbable). Imho, T3 shut the door on that possibility forever.
Sad, but true.

plus most of the Thief 4 rumours suggest it would have been set in modern day or the future. Which just plain sucks. If you want that, go and play any other stealth game ever.

From the business point of view it would probably a Sam Fisher clone. Not that a clone has automatically be also successfull, but manager seem to think that if SF was sucessfull, a clone also has to be. Apparently it hasnt got inot stock holders heads that a game also has to have a limited amount of fun as well. Well, considering the fanboyism of certain "high-profile" titles, maybe that's not true after all...

If the fan community decided to put together a Thief 4, maybe do it on the T2 engine. If you want the old feel, why not go back to old tech? Or is that just stupid? yeah come to think of it, probably yes...
Queston: Has anyone made any of the old TG, T2 missions for TDS?
just curious... (please don't make me go digging around old threads)

i don't think so. Most T1/G/2 missions would be impossible to make in T3 due to lack of rope arrows and swimmable water, coupled with the sheer size of most of the Dark engine levels. As far as I'm concerned, the nearest you'll get to Thief 4 is T2X. It's a worthy enough sequel(ish) in my books. Thief works as a trilogy - there's not really anywhere they can take the character of Garrett now without getting silly.

I agree. It's a wonderful feeling to be playing T2X, and it truly does feel like it belongs in the family. It's a slightly different flavor, but it works.

And I have to disagree with this. Don't get me wrong, I loved T2X, but it was in no way shape or form a sequel to anything, it's a standalone campaign with no overt references to Garrett or the original series. I do agree that Thief works as a trilogy, and if there is ever a Thief 4, no matter what setting is chosen, I doubt Garrett will be the main character.

It's a stand alone campaign, but it still takes place in the same world, within the time line between Thief 1 and Thief 2...and Garrett does make a 'brief' appearance in one of the levels, although very brief. It's still a sequel, just like Star Trek: The Next Generation is a sequel to the original series from the sixties. Different characters, different time line...same universe. It's a direct sequel to the Thief 'series', not to the original storyline.
