Thief and the old days... - by Naked

I couldn't count how many times I played the Bafford mission demo before actually buying the game. I was really sucked in by the atmosphere, and just drawn by those really rich, thick shadows the game gets when you have the gamma correction in just the right place.
Then there was the middle of the actual game when Constantine reveals his true self, and I was really blown away - I was just not expecting anything like that to happen.
I can also recall when Thief 2 came out and how jazzed up I was playing that first mission. I just sort of bounced around the mansion and was like, "I'm supposed to be helping who now?"

The first time I realised how cool this thing was when managing to actually get to the final inner level of Baffords and that eerie trilling flute and menacing horn bit of music starts up. Even today I still think that combination of sneaky excitement, gloomy graphics and quietly menacing sound effects at that point in Baffords is probably the most immersive experience made in a computer game.
I came to "modern" -for the time- PC gaming in the summer of 1999, and my first taste of that kind of immersion probably came with Rainbow Six, but Thief was definitely several notches up from that for me. I'm sure I made a list of favourite Thief moments here at some point, but I might just add that the moment in Bonehoard where you're in a windy tunnel and think "what's that noise" and realisng that it's the extremely distant Horn Of Quintus really sealed it for me :thumb:

Yeah, when you pick up the Horn and the noise stops...classic. My "Thief" moment was the first time hearing that victory music when I finished Bafford's. I was full of adrena;ine and my palms were sweaty. It was exhausting. I had never played a gamew/such strong memories/emotions until DX, and ONLY DX. Otherwise, I can't say anything else has quite left that mch of an impression.

I only play four games.
Wow, how lame. Goldmoon Dawn, your party has requested you meet them in THE 21st CENTURY.

I only play two (well, three if forced to admit it), real life is exciting enough that all the crap shooters and on-line multis are an un-necessary clutter.

I also had one of those sword moments. I loved that level. I also find the smae deal with the Undercover mission. It was so exciting to enter the enemy's territory. I hated the sound it made when you didn't get all the switches in time, though :p

Especially when you are almost close enough to pull the last switch.

Where is this requirement you have to play more. :tsktsk:
I don't play many other games either.

Imagine if you had found & played a great game before Thief and you felt it was enough to satisfy the gaming needs; you'd perhaps never discover the Thief series.
The point is, without trying out new games you are missing out.
