Just a quick question...
How many Thief fans here play World of Warcraft and how many are Rogues?
I myself love thief like the cheerleader i never had and i also play Wow. Im a Lock :)
Playing Wow just feels like killing time until Thief 4 :)

You really think there is gonna be a Thief 4.

I am playing WoW (that's one of the reasons why I am building so slowly my FM :p ),and my main used to be a rogue. When I started playing WoW I made a rogue for a main character (because of Garrett of course),but I quit, and when came back,I started playing on another server, with another characters.
But,I am playing Lord of the Rings Online as well, and my main there is a burglar (which means rogue in this game).

If after several more posts this thread continues to discuss Wow and not Thief, it will be moved to General Gaming.

I found the "stealth" aspect of WoW rogues pretty ridiculous, all in all.
Even when playing exclusively on RP realms, there just never was any Thiefy feeling over it whatsoever.
* Little to no opportunity to cleverly use the environment for sneaking.
* Close combat specialists.
* No rewards for avoiding combat.
* "Stealthy" invisibility at noon in a desert.
Garrett would have been disgusted.
Are there any MMO games where these factors are solved to a Thief player's satisfaction?

That would be good to know.
I can certainly see people trying to play a character with a thiefy skill-set and hoping for a stealthy gameplay style, and then finding out what we could've guessed, or should've known, that these games are nearly always hack'n'slash, pwning-assassin style for the players who want to feel sneaky.
So yeah, if there are any games that allow a non-assassin stealth approach, I'd like to see which they are. If they've been mentioned before, I probably had no interest in the overall game, and so, put it out of my mind.

I quite enjoyed it and I did feel a little Thiefy - especially when doing some quests by stealth. I'd sneak into a place and only kill the enemies I'd need too. Of course you don't get all the XP for all the kills but meh it was fun anyway.

didn't go out and buy wow, so my cheap ass went with silkroad online
a bit more realistic in some ways and you can be a rogue as well as wear a thief job suit and actually kill traders and steal their loot.
but yeah, it's still a mmorpg so it's not ever gonna be like the fps that thief was.
the only online game that will ever be similar to thief is obviously only thievery ut.
but then again, the point of rpgs is merely to play out a role, mainly in your imagination.

never really pieced together how my roommate can "wow" every day practically flunking university and still spend his whole weekend alone in front of the same "rougefilled" screen

I agree, the Thief series won't consume your life but instead give you immersive gameplay experience every now and then. If a new Thief comes out I hope that there is an online aspect where you can interact and trade with other online members in the City.
