I wish I could make a Thief book. I think I
really understand the whole universe well
but I'm terrible with words. :grr: I would love
any series of Thief books though. :)

Could well be. I found myself loving
Lies to the point that I reread it this week. Which is quite, quite unprecedented, returning to a novel only (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1696811#post1696811) six months after first reading it. Can't remember the last time that happened, probably in kindergarden. Of course, in the meantime I've secured the sequel,
Red Seas Under Red Skies, which I thoroughly enjoy reading right now instead of doing anything useful. The third book in the Gentleman Bastard sequence,
The Republic of Thieves, was supposed to be (
http://www.amazon.com/Republic-Thieves-Scott-Lynch/dp/0553804693/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1201808499&sr=1-2) out in HC this month, but has been pushed back another seven months.
But be warned: there's less of burglary and purse-cutting than downright con games and double-crossing intrigue in these books. Which OTOH arguably might make for more interesting literature, all in all:

Yes, i have just finished Red Seas! I didn't think it was as good as the first one but there is no debate about Lynch's talent as a writer. The first one I couldn't put down (and I am not a big reader). I'm not surprised you re-read it so soon.
It's a shame the third book has been put back. Nice cover too. I am just hanging out for it. I want to see Locke and Jean teach the BondsMagi of Karthain a lesson, once and for all, which is no small feat. The Crooken warden guide and protect you...:thumb:

Try reading 'The Blade Itself' by Joe Abercrombie.
It's dark fantasy, 5 star book, and the first in a trilogy.
Quite thief-like in many places, including the medieval-type cover.
And one of the characters is quite cynical and open-minded. Garrett anyone?

Well, researching Scott Lynch right now (his personal site and LJ are quiet, which I take as good omens), I noticed there was another Gentleman Bastard book coming out in November, spanning two novellas:
(
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bastards-Knives-Mechanical-Omnibus-Gentleman/dp/0575082135/) "
The Bastards and the Knives: The Mad Baron's Mechanical Attic and The Choir of Knives: An Omnibus"
From what I understood of the blurb, the novellas describe certain off-camera events from
Lies, so it should be a prequel of sorts. Sounds good.

So if you know of any
well written books out there that have a really interesting style about them and can convey the kinds of feelings that the Thief series bring out in you please recommend them!
Try Kafka if you (haven't already and) want to learn what it feels like not to know what pushes you around. That's like reading a nightmare. ETA Hoffmann wrote black romanticism and is also quite close to that, although the protagonists are of course more impassionated than Garrett. Eco is quite good for the intellectual and theoretical parts of it, could refer to Hammerites and Keepers.

I have just read "Lies of..." Great novel. Although it's not quite a Thief-like, it has many similarities to the atmosphere of the game, as was mentioned before. And the world and some ideas around it are just amazing. I recommend it. ...And start reading book two by now;)
