I say fix the missing animation .. but don't allow dousing..
Explanation.. Thief candles are magic but the anti-dousing magi-technology only works on LITTLE flames.... hence torches are still dousable.

as mentioned before, dousing can be made (and will be made) optional at install.

Not like its a multiplayer game, so I will choose candle flames fixed.. after 15 years... but make them magically un-dousable in the options so I don't change the gameplay if I don't want to.

There is no missing animation. Animated flames are in the RES file but were never used in LGS' original missions.

yeah, tried it out, but didn't like it too much (there are actually two flames on those models, making it blatantly obvious that they are 2d) - also, it would create a problem with the EP models (as there are no EP models with built in flame), so unfortunately, this implementation is not suitable for what I want to accomplish. NewDark should allow a proper animated texture flame attachment (a texture which has a couple of frames, and turns around the vertical axis to always face the player), but at this moment, that kind of dromeding is a bit too high level for me.

Don't have to change gameplay.. just put candle flames where the illumination appears for them in the levels regardless of their existence or non-existence.

Did you download my flames in that posting (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143062&p=2232408&viewfull=1#post2232408) and did you put them into obj/txt ..? The LGS flame files are crap, I know ... you also can create your own flame files or add more FLAME2_3.gif, FLAME2_4.gif ... but it works fine. :)
Let's say better than nothing for a new EP ... ;)

yeah, tried with the new flames as well, but for the solution to be viable, it needs to work with all parts of TFix, and unfortunately, this is not the case. I'll probably go with the blobby flames until I'm ready to switch the maps to full NewDark.
