Doesn't work for me with Wine 1.1.21. Game hangs at the main menu. Sorry :(
Creative have proprietary linux drivers for their X-Fi cards that support EAX. I've no idea how or if this applies to Thief.
They do _not_ support EAX. (I do have an X-FI, and I use Creative's drivers)

My bad. Seems X-Fi owners have been getting a bit of a rough time of it and the sparkly new OpenAL+EAX support Creative promised never materialised. Though I read that Creative released a chunk of code on Thursday, so maybe things will start to pick up.

The "mouse pointer limited to screen size" bug is a longstanding problem with Wine mouse handling. The recent versions make some attempts to fix it; but if it doesn't work with an up-to-date version, you may try opening a registry editor and setting HKEY_Current_User/Software/Wine/DirectInput/MouseWarpOverride to "force".
Good luck!
[edit] Oops. Sorry for necromancy.

Another Wine user here...
That mouse issue is indeed an outstanding bug that affects almost (all?) Unreal II engine games. There is a patch that will fix it (I tried it with the ut2k3 demo and it worked). The problem is that this patch causes the mouse to stop working in NOLF2. Here is a link to the place with the patch...

Hopefully this will be sorted out and included in the main version of Wine, because I'm sure a lot of people aren't willing to patch and recompile.
