How do I use Thief 3 Gold mod and is it meant to be a new save? Also I get 'Stopped working' when I start the mission where you go down the well for the Jacknell's Paw, just after the cutscene and loading screen it crashes.
First post here since I didn't get replies on Steam and want to get back to playing DS, hope I haven't done anything wrong :D

If you wait a few more days, you might start playing the latest version within an improved Sneaky Upgrade and bug-fixed maps. In any case, snobel might help with the (Steam-related) details but in any case you need a clean T3 install, install the Sneaky Upgrade on it and use the version of FMSel which comes with it to play T3G as if it was an FM. Old savegames will almost never work and if they do, the game should be totally messed-up. It's nice to see but usually not helpful for playing. :D

Do you mean in a few days there will be a new Sneaky Upgrade? And that I would have to start a new game to use Thief 3 Gold?

This is my first time playing Thief DS, I'd rather not start over and I wouldn't know if some things are a bug or meant to happen.

Try letting Steam validate the game. If that doesn't help, try going back a few saves and see if it crashes again at the well. If it does you can upload a save from just before and I can have a look - but it's unlikely that anything can be done about it.

The difference between your T3G version and the new one is much smaller than between vanilla TDS and T3G. Since you're still at the beginning of the game, re-starting isn't that much of a loss. If you really want a proper comparison, you should play the original TDS first.

I followed the steps of moving the Thief DS to /Games, verifying it, reinstalling Sneaky Upgrade and the texture mod, but I still got a 'has stopped working' message when I tried to start the Jacknell's Paw mission. :(

If by "texture mod" you mean the Collective Texture Pack (a.k.a. John P's textures), then you might as well not install it because using the old installer you won't see the textures when playing Thief 3 Gold. With the upcoming SU + T3G etc. you get the texture pack in a way that's compatible with T3G, which is another reason to switch.
